TITLE: Physical Education Teacher
JOB SUMMARY:

- 185 day contracted work year.
- Salary based on education and experience.
- Certificated Salary Schedule.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Credential:
- Single Subject Physical Education Credential or Multiple Subject Credential with Subject Matter Authorization in Physical Education.
- Bachelor's degree, including all courses needed to meet credential requirement.
- Better than average recommendations from student teaching supervisors or other professionals who have observed the personal characteristics, scholastic attainment, and classroom performance of the teacher.
- Appearance, grooming and personality which adheres to the district employee dress code and establishes a desirable example for pupils.
- Ability to meet district standards for physical and mental health.
- Recognition of outstanding knowledge or physical education. Physical stamina and skill in sports and other physical activities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THIS POSITION:
- Provide physical education classes for grades 7 through 8.
- May act as a resource person for grades Kindergarten through Grade 6.
- Organize and implement activities for inter mural sports.
- Provide competitive sports program for intermediate and junior high students.
- Teach knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, rhythms with foreign and American dances, and individual, dual, or team sports to junior high school pupils, utilizing course of study adopted by the Board of Trustees and other appropriate learning activities.
- Instruct pupils in citizenship, basic communication skills, and other general elements of the course of study common to all teachers, as specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
- Work cooperatively with other physical education teachers in planning a balanced physical education program, adapting daily schedules to accommodate weather conditions and to provide time for changing clothes, instruction, exercise, and sports activities.
- Analyze, demonstrate, and explain basic skills, knowledge, and strategies of formal sports, games, rhythms, and fundamentals of body movement.
- May provide individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil, to the extent feasible.
- May teach one or more classes of adapted physical education for students with orthopedic and/or medical problems. May teach one or more classes in interscholastic athletics (boys or girls) or drill team (girls) to junior high school pupils.
- Provide appropriate safety instruction and make safety checks on equipment and field areas to insure the overall safety of pupils.
- Maintain use and storage of equipment and supplies to prevent loss and abuse.
- Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive environment in the physical education areas.
- Evaluate each pupil's growth in physical fitness, and in physical skills and knowledge. Assess each individual's contribution to the performance of the group in team sports. Prepare progress reports.
- Maintain professional competence through participation in in-service education workshops and clinics which may be provided by the district, and/or in self-selected professional growth activities.
- May assist in the writing of the physical education curriculum or the district.
- May provide in-service to staff members regarding physical education.
