3Rd Shift Yard Spotter/Driver

JOB SUMMARY:

We are seeking a skilled and reliable Yard Spotter/Driver to join our team. The primary responsibility of this role is to safely and efficiently move trailers and containers within our yard or facility. The ideal candidate will have excellent attention to detail, strong communication skills, and a commitment to safety.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Operate Yard Spotting Equipment: Safely operate yard trucks, spotters, or other specialized vehicles to move trailers and containers within the yard or facility.

2. Spot Trailers: Position trailers in designated areas for loading, unloading, and storage according to instructions provided by supervisors or yard management.

3. Inspect Equipment: Conduct pre-operational inspections of yard spotting equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation. Report any maintenance or repair needs to maintenance staff.

4. Maintain Yard Organization: Assist in maintaining an organized and efficient yard layout by properly positioning trailers and containers. Ensure clear access to loading docks and other designated areas.

5. Communicate Effectively: Coordinate with warehouse personnel, truck drivers, and yard management to ensure timely movement of trailers and containers. Communicate any issues or concerns related to yard operations.

6. Adhere to Safety Regulations: Follow all company safety policies and procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to traffic rules and regulations within the yard.

7. Complete Documentation: Maintain accurate records of yard activities, including trailer movements, inspections, and any incidents or accidents. Complete required paperwork or electronic logs as necessary.

8. Assist with Other Duties: Provide support to warehouse or transportation teams as needed, including loading and unloading trailers, palletizing freight, or other general labor tasks.

Qualifications:

• Valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with a clean driving record.
• Proven experience operating yard spotting equipment or similar vehicles in a warehouse or distribution environment.
• Strong understanding of safety regulations and procedures related to yard operations.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively with a diverse team.
• Ability to perform physical tasks, including bending, stooping, lifting, and climbing in a fast-paced environment.
• Attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Physical agility to climb in and out of yard spotting equipment and navigate in narrow spaces.
• Stamina to work extended periods outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Capability to perform repetitive tasks and maintain focus during length of shift.
• Flexibility to bend, stoop, kneel, and stand for extended periods.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• The work environment for this position primarily involves outdoor work in a yard or facility setting.
• Exposure to varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and snow, is common.
• The job may require working near moving equipment and machinery, requiring attentiveness and adherence to safety protocols.
• The work environment may be noisy, with exposure to loud machinery and vehicle traffic.
• The job may involve working in close proximity to other team members and coordinating activities with warehouse and transportation personnel.
