The Library Media Technician promotes a love of literacy, assists in management of the library collection, and supports district tech support procedures.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Facilitates the daily operations of the Library Media program and district mobile device "tech support."
  • Models the effective and enthusiastic use of books, videos, multimedia, and other creative expressions of information as sources of pleasure and information.
  • Assists students in the Library as assigned, checking books in and out and provides resource materials as requested; attends to student issues regarding Chromebooks.
  • Provides limited instruction to students as assigned.
  • Communicates information and resources to students and staff.
  • Communicates professionally with parents/guardians when necessary.
  • Assists with ordering books and audio-visual materials, inventory items and supplies in accordance with established protocols. Purge outdated materials as required. Assist with annual library inventory.
  • Receives and processes library materials for shelving and circulations by coding, labeling, stamping, insertion of detection devices and by loading records into the library computer system.
  • Tracks circulation of library materials and oversees activities at the circulation desk as required.
  • Prepares required reports as assigned using available computer systems and programs.
  • Assists in the compiling of overdue lists. Prepares notices to homeroom teachers concerning overdue books.
  • Monitors volunteers, and student interns to facilitate smooth operations.
  • Operates various technical, audio-visual and office equipment.
  • Oversees the general neatness and attractiveness of the library.
  • Prepares and maintains displays and bulletin boards.
  • Performs other clerical duties as assigned (typing letters and memos, filing, copying, etc.).
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of general clerical functions.
  • Knowledge of accepted behavior management techniques and practices.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs including Word, Excel, Power Point and Publisher, as well as G Suite for Google Chrome.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Outlook for email and calendar scheduling.
  • Ability to troubleshoot minor operational problems with computers and programs used by patrons.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment including computer, copier and fax machine.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and courteously with staff, students, parents and community members.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with Federal and State laws, district procedures and Board policies.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • 6 months experience working with school age children
  • 1 - 2 years experience working in either a school or public library
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Previous clerical experience
  • Any equivalent combination of training, education and experience that meets minimum requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, bend, stoop and walk. The employee may be required to occasionally lift up to 40 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position regularly works indoors. The noise level in the work environment is generally moderate. Will have extensive contact with students, teachers and staff.

$17.42/hour - 10 Month position - 8 hours/day
