Job description

Job Objective:
Deliver civil and structural engineering expertise in support of capital projects and facility operations & maintenance activities in accordance with applicable specifications, standards, and federal and state regulations.
Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide civil and structural engineering discipline support to Project Engineers and field personnel, including Foremen, Site Facility Engineers, and Maintenance Leads.
  • Provide structural engineering expertise in support of Integrity Team requests.
  • Develop engineering designs, calculations, analysis, and estimates for projects and O&M support.
  • Participate in project life cycle from conception to close-out across multiple assets.
  • Engage project stakeholders to ensure operational objectives are achieved.
  • Specify fit-for-purpose materials to meet project schedule and budget targets.
  • Lead C/S designers and perform technical reviews to approve design packages.
  • Perform integrity inspections and assessments of structures, foundations, and supports.
  • Review and approve foundation and building design package submittals for Fire Marshal permitting.
  • Participate in incident investigations involving structural failures.
  • Develop and review lifting plans.
  • Specify, review, and approve welding procedures.
  • Collaborate with the Subsidence Team to find creative solutions to settling and heaving issues.
  • Establish the required level of engineering drawings needed for design packages.
  • Interface with third party contract consultants to review and provide oversight and input to design packages.
  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines to ensure cohesive solutions to field requests.
  • Abide by all required safety and environmental policies and procedures.
  • Facilitate learning before, during, and after completion of any job or major activity.

Other Job Responsibilities:
  • Understand and participate in the MOC system.
  • Participate in project Lessons Learned.
  • Update Civil and Structural Specifications as required to meet latest adopted code and best engineering practices.
  • On-call availability outside established working hours in support of Operations questions or emergencies.
  • This position requires travel (up to 10%) to field facilities and other offices throughout Alaska, as well as periodic work outdoors in arctic and industrial facility environments, to validate field conditions and establish and maintain good working rapport with operations and maintenance personnel.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Civil or Structural Engineering.
  • Five (5) years minimum experience required as a Registered Professional Civil or Structural Engineer.
  • Oil and gas industry experience required.
  • Considerable knowledge of low-temperature rated materials and arctic construction procedures.
  • Considerable knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards including IBC, API, AISC, and ASCE codes and standards.
  • Proficient with structural engineering calculation software, such as ENERCalc, RISA, and STAAD Pro.
  • Knowledge of the federal and State of Alaska Administrative Codes, Statutes, and Regulations that govern civil and structural work in industrial oil & gas facilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with specific ability to translate complex information into an organized and presentable manner.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, supervisors, other departments, and field personnel.
  • Self-starter able to work proactively and independently to provide support to multiple assets.

Education Requirements:
  • Required: Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from an accredited four-year university or college.

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations:
  • Required: State of Alaska Registered Professional Civil or Structural Engineer
