Teacher (GE OR SE)/Head Varsity Boys Basketball Coach
V. Sue Cleveland High School
190 Day Contract
Head Varsity Boys Basketball Coach
Minimum Qualifications:
4-6 years Varsity Basketball Coaching Experience
New Mexico licensure; must hold or be able to obtain a 501 coaching license
Essential Responsibilities:
Produce competitive individuals and teams while teaching character and life skills.
  • Before allowing any prospective athlete to participate in his/her program (including practice he/she will verify that the athlete has completed and submitted to the school, a Rio Rancho Public Schools Interscholastic Athletic Participation Form, physical and proof of insurance. A copy of this must be kept on file in the school athletic office.
  • Explain and discuss the RRPS Athletic Code of Conduct with those athletes in his/her program. Maintain a file containing a copy of the code of conduct for each athlete with the signature of the athlete, his/her parent, and the head coach, indicating that each understands the terms of the agreements.
  • Prepare and submit to the athletic office:
    • A list of all lettermen in your program at the end of the season.
    • A complete inventory of equipment at the end of the season.
    • All requests for new equipment for the next year by the deadline set by the athletic director.
    • Evaluations of Assistant , JV, 9th grade coaches at the end of the season
  • Compile and distribute to all faculty members, assistant principals, attendance office and on line, a list of athletes that are to be excused from school on each road trip.
  • Check with Athletic Coordinator on the Monday prior to all road trips, to confirm the date and time of your scheduled departure. If you wish to adjust your departure time, it can be done at that time.
  • See that all equipment is properly stored and cared for at the end of the season.
  • Provide a safe keeping place for valuables during practice and game time.
  • Demand that our athletes conduct themselves as ladies/gentlemen at all times when they are representing our city and school.
  • See that all athletes under his/her jurisdiction are well informed as to all athletic eligibility rules and regulations.
  • Limit the time athletes will be out of school to a minimum.
  • See that no student in his/her program participates in more than the maximum number of games /contest than is permitted by the NMAA.
  • To supervise his/her assistant coaches and all of the athletic teams who are a part of his/her program
  • Be knowledgeable of rules and regulations regarding his/her sport as presented in the NMAA handbook.
  • Keep abreast of rules and rule changes in his/her sport.
  • To, at all times, when serving in the capacity as a representative of RRPS, conduct him/herself in a manner that will not cause any embarrassment to the team, school, or community and demand the same expectations of all of his/her assistant coaches.
  • Encourage athletes to participate in as many sports as possible.
  • Develop criteria for earning a letter in their particular sport.
  • Must conduct mandatory parent preseason meeting reviewing all expectations, team rules, information, etc.

Work Hours:
Work hours will be in accordance with hours determined by the school district and the individual schools within parameters of the current Collective Bargaining Agreement.
General Education Teacher
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university;
  • Current New Mexico Department of Education license appropriate to the teaching assignment with applicable endorsements or ability to obtain proper licensure within 90 days of hire.

Skills/Aptitudes:
  • Efficient organizational ability;
  • Professional written and oral communication skills;
  • Ability to maintain high level of professionalism and confidentiality regarding
  • students, staff, parents, and school matters.

Essential Job Responsibilities of Teacher:
  • Coordinates teaching program with site-based goals and district-wide objectives;
  • Implements approved curricula to achieve student learning at appropriate state standards and benchmarks level for each grade
  • Arranges physical environment of the classroom for optimum learning and safety of students;
  • Uses and applies appropriate conflict resolution skills with students;
  • Maintains positive attitude and ensures classroom environment is conducive to student learning;
  • Develops goals and objectives for self, group, and student academic achievement, maintaining documentation to assure accountability;
  • Provides appropriate instructional classroom activities for students; Maintains order in the assigned classroom;
  • Maintains records of student performance and attendance;
  • Completes required reports and report cards within prescribed time frames;
  • Maintains appropriate contact with parents/guardians regarding student progress, arranges for and attends parent /teacher conferences
  • Attends staff meetings and in-service training activities
  • Competent technology skills.
  • Demonstrates the competencies as required by Regulation Title 6, Chapter 69, Part 4.12New Mexico Administrators Code Performance Evaluation System Requirements for Teachers.
  • Adheres to Code of Ethics as outlined in 6.60.9 New Mexico Administrators Code
  • Performs other job duties as assigned.

Work Hours:
Work hours are established in employment contract. Additional work hours may be assigned by the School Principal within the parameters of the current Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Special Education Teacher
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Current New Mexico Department of Education license appropriate to the teaching assignment with applicable endorsements or ability to obtain proper licensure within 90 days of hire.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Efficient organizational ability;
  • Professional written and oral communication skills;
  • Ability to maintain high level of professionalism and confidentiality regarding students, staff, parents, and school matters.

Essential Job Responsibilities
  • Coordinates teaching program with site-based goals and district wide objectives;
  • Instructs and assists students in motor, language, socio-emotional and cognitive development;
  • Assures that goals and objectives in Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) are completed;
  • Assists students with special needs, such as feeding, moving non-ambulatory students, bathroom assistance, diapering, and bathing;
  • Plans and directs instruction activities of educational assistants;
  • Instructs students in one-on-one activities and in small groups;
  • Provides regular communication with educational assistants, ancillary staff and regular education teachers on student progress;
  • Arranges physical environment of the classroom for optimum learning and safety of students;
  • Provides accurate delivery of curriculum to students within the scope of teaching assignment;
  • Uses and applies appropriate conflict resolution skills with students; maintains positive attitude and ensures classroom environment is conducive to student learning;
  • Develops goals and objectives for self, grade level/content group and student academic achievement;
  • Maintains documentation to assure accountability;
  • Provides appropriate instructional classroom activities for students; maintains order in the assigned classroom;
  • Maintains records of student performance and attendance;
  • Completes required reports and report cards within prescribed time frames, attends staff meetings and in-service training activities and school activities in compliance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement;
  • Demonstrates the competencies as required by Regulation Title 6, Chapter 69, Part 4.12 New Mexico Administrative Code Performance Evaluation System Requirements for Teachers and effectiveness as required by Regulation Title 6, Chapter 69, Part 8 of the New Mexico Administrative Code Teacher and School Leader Effectiveness;
  • Complies with state-approved New Mexico Administrative Code of Ethical Responsibility of the Education Profession and the RRPS Employee Standards of Conduct and upholds and enforces rules, administrative directives and regulations, school board policies, and local, state and federal regulations;
  • Employee may be assigned other duties based on the needs of the district during the term of employment.
