Position Schedule:Work 10 hours a week for 30 weeks.
PRIMARY FUNCTION: The 21st Century Tutor is responsible for providing after-school tutoring services to support student learning and development, including academic enrichment, mentoring, tutoring, and homework help as required by the 21st Century/LEAP grants.
KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):
Program Development and Implementation
- Provides academic tutoring to students
- Develops individual, small group, and large group academic lesson plans appropriate for students in the program
- Teaches and evaluates academic lessons
- Maintains contact with each childs classroom teacher, in person, or via telephone or email, to coordinate afterschool lessons with classroom teacher curriculum
- Helps students develop positive self-confidence, raise self-concept, and reduce anxiety or fear of failure in academic work
- Assists students in achieving a better understanding of specific subject material and in improving academic capabilities in designated areas
- Maintains records on each student who is being tutored, including follow-up and periodic assessments. Keeps a daily running record of student response and progress
- Submits all administrative paperwork, such as time sheets, correctly and on time
- Ensures confidentiality of records and information is maintained at all times
- Completes/assists with SWORPS data entry on a weekly basis and mid-year and year-end reports as directed by the Program Director

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
- Minimum BA or BS degree
- Ideal candidate is a certified teacher
- Has experience tutoring children
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Must be able to lift 20 pounds
- Must be able to remain alert and energetic for 8 hours or more
- Must be able to move quickly to keep up with youth
