The elementary strengthening program for Summer School 2024 will be delivered through an integrated content approach . Engineering is Elementary is a hands-on engineering and computer science curriculum developed by the Museum of Science in Boston. Lessons introduce students to the engineering design process and emphasizes problem solving skills, critical thinking, collaboration, communication and creativity.
Provide group instruction for students using Project Based Learning (STEM Modules)
Provide differentiation of content based on the needs of individual students
Participate in planning and professional learning before the start of Summer School
Collaborate with EL and SPED resource teachers to ensure content and activities are accessible to all students
Prepare daily projects and implement curriculum with fidelity
Model and scaffold learning so that students can meet all learning goals
Experience and interest in teaching STEM
Interest in implementing Project Based Learning, Science Inquiry and Creative Problem Solving
Experience in a co-teaching setting
Interest and willingness to support students' original thinking, multiple paths to problem solving, discovery and curiosity.
Licensed to teach in Virginia
Ability to work with a team in planning for instruction
Ability to work with flexible student groupings
Availability to participate in curriculum planning and professional learning before and during Summer School
MUST BE AVAILABLE TO ATTEND PROFESSIONAL DAYS July 1 & 2, 2024
Willingness to learn and implement the Project Based Learning Curricula

Summer School Teachers who are APS employees during the year will be paid the Non-VRS equivalent rate - hourly rate or $35.52 per hour., whichever is higher. (Please note Salary earned relative to Summer School employment will not be included in the employee’s creditable compensation amount reported to the Virginia Retirement System (VRS).) Retired APS teachers will be paid $47.73 per hour per APS pay plan. Non-APS licensed Summer School teachers will be paid $35.52 per hour. If you resign effective the last day of the school year, you will receive a flat rate of $35.52 per hour for teachers. Pay
