Probing the Effects of Nucleotide Modification in Synthetic Guide RNA for the Improvement of Gene-Editing CRISPR Therapeutics
Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated intern to join our gene-editing team focused on the chemical synthesis of modified nucleosides and oligonucleotides. The intern will participate in synthesizing the appropriate chemical building blocks for solid-phase oligonucleotide synthesis, as well as the purification and characterization of synthetic guide RNAs to support our research in CRISPR focused gene-editing. The ideal candidate will understand basic chemistry terms and principles and the ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Intern Responsibilities:

• Nucleoside/Oligonucleotide Synthesis:


• Synthesis, purification and characterization of modified phosphoramidite building blocks.
• Use of automated synthesizers to produce RNA oligonucleotides.
• Purify oligonucleotides using various techniques such as HPLC, PAGE, or other relevant methods.


• Research and Development:


• Participate in the development of new chemical modalities for CRISPR guide RNAs.
• Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory records in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
• Communicate findings and progress to project leaders.

Requirements:

• Currently enrolled in a chemistry/biochemistry undergraduate/graduate program in the United States.
• Knowledge of basic organic chemistry terms and NMR spectroscopy. Hands on chemistry lab experience is a bonus.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.

• MUST be currently enrolled in a U.S. Undergraduate and/or Graduate Degree Program and not graduating prior to the completion of the Ionis internship
• MUST be able to begin internship between 6/11 and 6/17/2024
• MUST be able and willing to remain in program through at least 8/16/2024
• MUST be able and willing to commit to a minimum 40-hour work week
