Position: 2024 Summer ExtendedSchool Year for Occupational Therapist
Purpose: Professional, temporary Occupational Therapy needed for the 2024 Extended School Year Program. The Occupational Therapist will be responsible for evaluating, planning and providing occupational therapy treatment individually and in groups for the Extended School Year program.
Dates: July 8, 2024 - August 16, 2024 (Monday - Friday). Staff - two additional days for planning and closure of program
Hours: 8:30 - 12:30 for staff; 9:00 - 12:00 for students
Salary: Per negotiated agreement
Essential Functions:
  • Maintain, improve, or restore function of students in all education-related activities
  • Design and execute lessons and activities which help students access the academic environment and participate to their potential.
  • Keep and maintain thorough, accurate records and documents for each session
  • Complete daily attendance records
  • Complete all necessary Medicaid paperwork
  • Provide timely progress updates to parents/guardians and relevant school staff
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and other school staff members
  • Complete appropriate evaluations to determine eligibility or ineligibility to receive services
  • Active participation in Committee on Special Education meetings
  • Collaborates with other disciplines to ensure team understanding of student performance strengths and needs, through evaluation, educational program planning, and service delivery
  • Synthesizes evaluation results into comprehensive written report, which reflects strengths and barriers to student participation in the educational environment directly related to referral concern.
  • Develops and implements intervention strategies.
  • Prioritizes and schedules work tasks independently.
  • Submits accurate and timely caseload information to supervisor based on monthly, quarterly or semester reporting periods.

Additional Duties:
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent for Student Support Services and Building Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles, techniques and practices of occupational therapy.
  • Knowledge of the operation and minor maintenance of apparatus and equipment used in occupational therapy.
  • Knowledge of community resources available to support or supplement the occupational therapy program.
  • Ability to evaluate, plan and execute treatments for students.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
  • Ability to assume responsibility for the treatment of students.
  • Ability to provide and maintain accurate records and reports.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment.
  • Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
  • Ability to engage with a culturally diverse student population and families.

Qualifications Profile:
Certification/License: New York State Licensed as an Occupational Therapist. Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
Education: Degree in occupational therapy from an accredited program.
Experience: Experience working with a culturally, ethnically, and ably diverse population of students desired; successful prior experience a plus.
Demands, Hazards: Works in standard office and school building environments.
Equipment: Uses standard office equipment such as personal computers, printer, copy and fax machines, and telephone.
Travel: Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.
