2024 Spring Community Engagement Intern

Internship Description 
Availability: Spring 2024

*This internship is only open to students enrolled at Fairfield University and specifically to students in the College of Arts and Sciences. 

 
Hours: 11 hrs/ week, Maximum of 20 hours week. Internships are expected to work in a combination hybrid and remote environment.  
Start date: February 12, 2024 through April 12, 2024
Internship Summary: 
The Community Engagement intern reports to the VP | Community Engagement and is responsible for helping to support statewide engagement efforts.  Successful interns take a continuous improvement approach, taking the time to evaluate current processes and partner with supervisor, external stakeholders, and internal partners.   We seek sharp, creative applicants with excellent writing and communication skills and an interest in engagement efforts. Interns should be collaborative and team-oriented, but also able to work independently. You will work alongside Community Engagement professionals who develop and implement engagement events and partnerships in support of Connecticut Public across the state. 
Interns need to demonstrated experience and skills in event planning, working with multidisciplinary teams, and event promotion.   Interns will observe and participate in brainstorming sessions and team meetings, perform online research and analyze data, and participate in developing, launching, and implementing events and engagement efforts, all while managing sensitive facets of the project with concurrent timelines using an independent and detail-oriented, proactive approach.   
Interns can expect to work a maximum of 20 hours per week. Individual scheduling and days/times of work can be negotiated with the applicable Manager. Interns are all paid bi- weekly and must complete Timecards. All interns are required to attend a Newcomer's Orientation, scheduled for their first day. 
Internship Responsibilities 

  • Assists with drafting, editing and revising communication materials and presentations. 
  • Advises and responds to supervisors and external partners, when applicable with questions that arise related to the program 
  • Assists with event planning and implementation. 
  • Attends Connecticut Public events and assists with event, including pre event set-up and post event wrap up 
  • Audits and communicates project data points to key stakeholders. 
  • Collaborates across teams to ensure systems for communication and documentation are up-to-date and accurate at all times 
  • Collects data from numerous sources and locations, electronically and paper, then imputes the collected data into one central repository for analysis designed to communicate, and manage work-flow processes for events.  
  • Creates and manages an engagement calendar. 
  • Develops guidelines/procedures for tracking progress on each phase of the even planning process.  
  • Reports and provides background details to the Digital Services Bureau on content performance and engagements 

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities  

Knowledge of: 

  • Eventbrite  
  • Graphic design programs like Canva, Adobe Creative or another software suite. 
  • Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and third-party analytics. 

 Skill In: 

  • Detail-oriented and self-starting spirit. 
  • Organization and action-orientation with strong following.    
  • Self-motivation, and performing cross-functionally with minimal supervisory help. 
  • Thriving in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with a careful attention to detail in striving for 100 percent accuracy. 

Ability to: 

  • Communicate clearly and effectively in both verbal and written mediums. 
  • Work well both individually and in a team environment 
  • Take direction and follow-up on time-sensitive events and projects.  

Candidates should be pursuing a career or course of study related to Solutions Journalism, Marketing, Advertising, or Communications, or business Administration although other majors and interests are always considered.
