The window is open from January 1 - April 26, 2024

I. POLICY

It is the policy of the Navajo Tribal Utility Authority (NTUA) to encourage Navajos to pursue studies that lead to either a bachelor or master degree in fields relating to the multi-service utility industry. One way for NTUA to fulfill its goal to be a good corporate citizen is to provide financial assistance to qualified Navajos who wish to attend College.

II. NTUA SCHOLARSHIP

A. Any enrolled Navajo who meets the following eligibility criteria will be eligible for a scholarship:
1. Who expects to graduate or has graduated high school by the date of enrollment at college or university; or
2. Who expects to receive or has received a GED certificate by the date of enrollment at college or university; or
3. A continuing college student with a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 2.00 or above;
4. Who is in a field of study related to the multi-service utility industry (e.g. business, management, administration, accounting, engineering, environment, information technology, etc.), is eligible.
5. The recipient must attend an accredited college or university on a full-time basis.
B. An applicant may renew if he/she maintains a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 2.00 or above.
C. The recipient will receive an amount up to $2,000 per academic year in equal installments per term or semester as the case may be based on the availability of funds. The funding will be disbursed directly to the college or university no later than the second week following the start of the academic semester or term, provided the student provides proof of registration for the term.

III. ENHANCED SCHOLARSHIP

The recipient of funds who is in good academic standing (2.00 CGPA) will be given first priority to be employed at an NTUA worksite while not in school.

A. Interns employed at NTUA and meet all other qualification will receive scholarships worth $2,500 per year paid in equal semester or term installments over the course of an academic year based on funds availability provided they meet performance standards of the Authority's business needs and have successfully completed their employment term of 2 months or more as hired.
B. An applicant may renew if he/she maintains a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 2.00 or above in addition to the employment conditions specified.
C. The recipient will receive an amount per academic year in equal installments per term or semester as the case may be based on the availability of funds. The funding will be disbursed directly to the college or university no later than the second week following the start of the academic semester or term, provided the student provides proof of registration.

IV. RECIPIENT ROLE AND RESPONSIBLITIES

A. The applicant must submit a completed scholarship and employment application forms with a letter of interest, GED Certification, high school or college transcripts, Certificate of Indian Blood and letter of admission from an accredited college or university.
B. The recipient who maintains a Cumulative Grade Point Average of 2.00 or above may reapply for the continuation of the scholarship assistance by submitting to NTUA a completed application form and an official transcript of the semester(s) completed by the established deadline.

V. HUMAN RESOURCES & TRAINING DEPARTMENT ROLES AND RESPONSIBLITIES


A. All documents required in the application process must be submitted to the NTUA (Ft. Defiance, Arizona) by the last Friday of April each year. All reviews, screening, and final determinations of applications will be completed within twenty (20) working days following the deadline. NTUA will notify the applicant, by letter the denial or award action within thirty (30) working days following the deadline.
B. The NTUA Human Resources and Training Department will collect the applications, transcripts, keep confidential profiles of applicants and recipients, screen and make final award and employment determinations, collect grade results, and submit an annual report to the General Manager.
