Digital Content Intern (Summer 2024)ABOUT THE INNOCENCE PROJECT

The Innocence Project works to free the innocent, prevent wrongful convictions, and create fair, compassionate, and equitable systems of justice for everyone. Our work is guided by science and grounded in anti-racism. Since our inception, the Innocence Project has used DNA and other scientific advancements to prove wrongful conviction. To date, we have helped to free or exonerate more than 200 people who, collectively, spent more than 3,600 years behind bars. Our efforts have led to the passage of more than 200 transformative state laws and federal reforms. ABOUT THE POSITION

The Digital Content Intern will provide support to the Innocence Project’s digital team within the communications department, and will report to the digital engagement specialist and digital associate.
This intern will have their pulse on news and media relevant to our work as well as our audience’s interests, and along with helping to handle the daily management of our social channels, they will assist in developing and creating digital and editorial content, social strategies, and identifying impactful opportunities to connect with various audiences. The Digital Content Intern will report to the Digital Engagement Director.
This position will be a 10-week paid internship with a minimum requirement of 40 hours per week. Duties will commence the week of May 30 and conclude the week of August 9.
This internship will be hybrid with 2 days in office, and 3 days remote.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

The ideal candidate has a passion for leveraging digital media and digital storytelling for good. The role will work collaboratively within and across teams, and the ideal candidate will be a committed team player who is excited about joining a dynamic digital and communications team. This position will provide day-to-day support and will facilitate processes for the digital communications team, so the ideal candidate will be organized with excellent time management skills, as well as understand and have familiarity with all types of social media. They will be ready to jump into the comments and be excited about finding creative ways to turn digital trends into real-world impact.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Round up news about wrongful conviction and the criminal legal system and Innocence Project stories to post on social media channels.
  • Draft and schedule social media copy and collaborate with the Digital Associate to oversee social media channels (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, Threads, Youtube) and SMS campaigns, ensuring they align with brand voice and messaging.
  • Provide ongoing support to a multidisciplinary team that manages Digital Content, social media, digital advocacy, and digital fundraising.
  • Work closely with our editorial team to pitch and draft editorial content on wrongful conviction stories related to exonerees or policy reform. 
  • Identify opportunities to create or share content that will interest and engage our audiences as well as research new trends and opportunities for social media and community management to grow and sustain Innocence Project’s digital community. 
  • Help collect and report on social media metrics
  • Help write, produce and direct TikTok videos and Reels
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
  • Undergraduate or graduate student with a concentration in English, communications, journalism, media relations, policy, political science or a related field is a plus but not required. 
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Attention to detail along with a commitment to quality and proofreading. 
  • Basic competency in Google Suite and AP style. 
  • Experience managing social media, writing copy, and community management is a plus.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.

SALARY

$19 per hour for undergraduate students and $21 per hour for postgraduate students
