The Role:
Moderna's Translational Biology team is on the lookout for a driven and capable Co-op to contribute to the development of mechanistic understanding in LNP and mRNA therapies. The role presents a thrilling opportunity to be involved in the creation of groundbreaking therapeutics and offers ample scope for learning and advancement. The Co-op will engage in a distinct project that complements the overarching aims of the team and should excel in collaboration, communication, and organization. We are seeking a candidate with a high level of enthusiasm, the ability to adapt to new challenges, and a strong dedication to their work. This position will run from July 15th- December 13th, with the expectation being that candidates will work full time and on-site for the entirety of the program.
The Team: The Translational Biology group focuses on designing and improving experimental approaches to deepen our understanding of LNP and mRNA biology. We help bridge pre-clinical findings with clinical insights, ensuring a seamless transition from lab to patient applications. The team develops the necessary capabilities to explore the mechanisms and effects of mRNA therapies and LNPs. Translational Biology facilitates the interpretation and application of complex biological data to real-world therapeutic development.
Here’s What You’ll Do:
Involvement in a broad range of in vitro, ex vivo, and in vivo research activities aimed at progressing the development of cutting-edge mRNA and lipid nanoparticle (LNP) therapies.
Support in elucidating the biodistribution, pharmacological, and pharmacodynamic profiles of LNPs in preclinical studies.
Aid in the execution of experiments to help gain mechanistic insights of LNP-mRNA pharmacology with meticulous documentation of scientific procedures, coupled with the analysis, interpretation, and presentation of research findings.
Additionally, contribution to the preparation of scientific reports and presentation materials.
Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table (Preferred Qualifications):
Enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program with a focus on Bioinformatics, Biology, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, or a related Life Science field.
Strong knowledge or experience in one or more of the following areas is highly desirable:
In vitro Cell-based/ ex vivo tissue culture (e.g., tissue slice culture/stem cell culture/organoids/3D cultures)
In vivo Tissue dissociation and processing.
Protein quantification techniques (e.g., Western blotting, ELISA, Luminex-based assays).
RNA Purification, qPCR, and/or other Molecular Biology techniques.
Tissue engineering/Microfluidic design.
Computational Science and/or Bioinformatics.
