The Role:
The Role: As part of our vision, Moderna is committed to invest in R&D to further expand our impact on patients. We are building an independent research and business unit for genomic medicines, called Moderna Genomics (mGx) based in Technology Square, Cambridge, MA. mGx will be an innovation engine for the company focused on discovering and delivering the next generation of in vivo gene editing and non-viral gene therapies. Moderna Genomics strives to be an industry leader in genomic medicines. This position will run from July 15th-December 13th, 2024. All co-ops are expected to be available the full duration of the program, for 40 hrs. week, and on-site.
Moderna Genomics is seeking a team-oriented and highly motivated Co-op to join our gene editing and translation group. The candidate will be on a team focused on the preparation and sequencing of Illumina libraries to measure the output of gene editing experiments or high-throughput screens. The successful candidate should have a background in molecular biology, genetics, or cell biology. Applicants should be collaborative team members, have excellent organizational and communication skills, and exhibit a strong desire to learn.

Here’s What You Will Do
Extract and characterize nucleic acids from biological samples
Transform nucleic acid samples into sequencing libraries
Perform sequencing library quality control assays by hand and on robotic liquid handlers
Potentially perform routine cell culture experiment with standard cell lines or primary cells
Deliver high quality data efficiently
Analyze, interpret, and present relevant data
Faithfully document scientific work and help create user-friendly protocols
Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table
A high-school diploma
Working knowledge and experience with general molecular biology and PCR
Experience with characterizing nucleic acids including assays using Nanodrop, Qubit, qPCR and Fragment analysis preferred
Experience with sequencing library preparation and Illumina sequencer operation is preferred
Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, scientific versatility, flexibility, results-oriented, ability to work both independently and collaboratively
Excellent communication skills
Passion for great data
