EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
The KCSO Captain provides leadership, administrative support, manages sections and units, and supervises both commissioned and non-commissioned staff within those sections or units. The functional assignments and tasks associated with this position are listed below.FUNCTIONAL ASSIGNMENTSContract Police Administrator (Chief of Police) for a contract agency,Sheriff's Office unit or Section Commander, assuming administrative and/or operational responsibility for a major work unit providing internal support to the entire King County Sheriff's Office (e.g., with the Technical Services Division or Criminal Investigation Division)Precinct Section Commander, assuming administrative and/or operational responsibility for a precinct (e.g., within the Patrol Operations Division). TASKS Meet with assigned personnel to solve problems. Guide, motivate, and evaluate the work performance of subordinate personnel. Make sure that assigned personnel have the resources needed to complete their jobs. Provide clear direction, expectations, and support for assigned personnel. Monitor the overall work performance and work quality of assigned personnel. Conduct mentoring as well as formal and informal counseling sessions with personnel in order to correct work deficiencies and develop work skills.Investigate allegations of personnel misconduct, public complaints, and internal complaints. Complete the documentation necessary to support personnel actions (i.e., commendations or disciplinary actions).Other duties as assigned.
