Job Description

About This Role: We currently have four high schools in New Orleans and one high school in Baton Rouge, and we are hiring Special Education teachers in both cities. Teachers must be deeply committed to creating a classroom culture where 100% of your students are engaged in rigorous lessons aligned to the college-ready bar.

Teacher Development at Collegiate Academies: At CA, our teachers never stop learning and never stop growing. Here’s how:

  • Our approach to teacher development at CA is focused on individual goals and growth combined with a high degree of individualized support.
  • Every teacher has a coach, and you will collaboratively, with your coach, create your growth goals and determine the plan that will see you hit those goals.
  • There are some things in common with other teachers at your school -- school goals, school priorities, school-based PD, etc. -- but it is in your relationship with your coach where you will translate those things into what you specifically need to meet those goals yourself.
  • You will also grow year over year as an expert in your content in collaboration with your peers across the network through content-specific professional development and data investigations.
  • There is an additional layer of support for first year teachers called the CA Teacher Residency (CATR), which is an intensified, pre-service and coaching plan to develop you in the skills that we have seen that make rookie teachers most successful in their first year at CA.

About Collegiate Academies: Collegiate Academies prepares all students for lives of unlimited opportunity. Founded in 2008, Collegiate Academies serves over 3,000 students in five public high schools and two postsecondary programs in New Orleans and Baton Rouge. We serve a dramatically higher proportion of students with special needs, students who are English language learners, and students who are from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. We see the individual greatness of every student who comes through our doors.

Role and Responsibilities:

Engagement and Set Bar Standard

  • Bring passion, joy, and energy to your lesson plan execution making sure students reflect the level of passion and excitement.
  • Support and build relationships with students while setting a high standard for their academic achievement to prepare students for college success.
  • Integrate and leverage a classroom narrative through CA’s system of positive behavioral support. Enable both positive and constructive feedback following the school core value cooperating Restorative Approaches.

Interventions and Supports to Meet the Needs of All Students

  • Execute strong Tier 1 and Tier 2 interventions within the Response To Intervention (RTI) framework to ensure every child can master the material in classroom settings.
  • Collaborate with Case Managers, the school-based Director of Intervention, and the Intervention Compliance Coordinator to ensure that all students with IEPs and 504s are on track to reach their goals

Teamwork that Drives the Success of our Whole School

  • Actively participate in all team meetings including but not limited to: our daily Morning Meeting, Weekly Grade Level and/or Department meetings, Friday Professional Development, Network Wide Data Days on a quarterly basis, and Monthly Professional Learning Community meetings.
  • Constantly look across the school and ask yourself, “how can our school be better tomorrow?”

Mindsets, Beliefs and Skills:

  • Positive attitude and strong work ethic. Ability to constantly find joy in the successes and challenges of our work. Ability to demonstrate that joy towards students, families, and teammates.
  • Desire to work at a college-prep high school rebuilding urban education for all learners.
  • Desire to grow as a teacher and face the challenges that come with deep reflection and direct feedback on your classroom practices.
  • Strong knowledge in the content area of choice, demonstrated through lesson planning, execution, and intervention with all students.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 2+ years of teaching experience, preferably working with students from similar backgrounds to Collegiate Academies students.

Additionally, CA provides the following benefits:

  • Industry-leading comprehensive medical and dental coverage
  • 403(b) Plan with a 3% match
  • 6 weeks of breaks per year (plus additional federal holidays) for all employees, with an additional 6 weeks for most school-based roles.
  • 12 weeks paid parental leave for primary and 6 weeks of secondary
  • Up to $2,500 for out-of-state moving expenses

To Apply:

Please submit a resume and cover letter. In your cover letter, please explain how you heard about Collegiate Academies and your interest and qualifications for the position. In the application, you will also be asked to answer the following questions. You may want to plan your answers in advance of beginning the application:

  1. Why are you drawn to the mission of Collegiate Academies?
  2. Describe a time in your career where you had to grow dramatically in your mindsets and skills to ensure student performance. What was challenging about this? How did you do?
