Austin Achieve Public Schools is a tuition-free, open-enrollment public charter school preparing youth to attend and excel at the nation’s top colleges and universities. Teachers and Co-Teachers play an essential role in the success of Austin Achieve scholars, as high-quality teaching is the key to student achievement. Additionally, teachers and staff will play a critical role in the development of the school’s culture and educational philosophies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Arrive on time for all scheduled events/opportunities.
- Attend professional development training with elementary school teachers before the beginning of the school year and throughout the year.
- Attend weekly staff meetings and school events.
- Serve as a positive adult mentor for scholars.
- Assist lead teacher in preparing instructional materials, classroom bulletins, and other educational displays.
- Work closely with students and reinforce skills introduced by the teacher.
- Facilitate play during centers and assist during whole group instruction.
- Administer formal student assessments twice a year and informal assessments throughout the year.
- Monitor student behavior (e.g., during bus loading, on the playground, in the cafeteria and hallways, and when the teacher is absent from the classroom); follow up with behavior plan consequences for students as necessary.
- Ensure that specific materials and supplies are ready for classroom use.
- Operate classroom technology such as projectors, Chromebooks, and tablets.
- Prepare and check family folders each day.
- Perform clerical duties such as recording attendance/grades and duplicating/laminating material.
- Assist children in eating or using the bathroom when necessary and clean classrooms or eating areas.
- Provide first aid and care for sick children, as necessary.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Experience in working in a team or as part of a teacher partnership inside the classroom
- Experience in collaboratively developing and implementing lessons and unit plans.
- Experience with Early Childhood Education and/or knowledge of best practices in Early Childhood classroom setting.
- Flexibility while adjusting to the school's schedule and program changes throughout the school year based on student needs.
- Desire to teach with technology and innovative practices. Native Spanish fluency is preferred but not required.
