PAY GRADE: Certified Salary Schedule FLSA STATUS: ExemptPOSITION OBJECTIVE:The job of SPED Teacher - Transition Specialist is done for the purpose/s of planning, organizing and implementing an appropriate instructional program in a learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: (These duties are a representative sample; position assignments may vary.) Advise case managers regarding compliance factors associated with transition documents.Conduct vocational assessments.Participate in the development of students' transition goals and objectives.Participate in the secondary students' Individual Transition Plan meetings as necessary.Participate in the completion of the Summary of Performance.Coordinate with agencies concerning their attendance at students' IEP meetings as necessary.Assist in the development and implementation of the Work Experience Class.Coordinate with the Career and Technology Education director and staff in order to facilitate secondary special education students' participation in CTE classes.Identify/develop job opportunities, assist students with completion of applications, participate in job interviews, and provide job coaching according to the individual needs of the students.Train and assist job coaches as necessary.Train students in appropriate work-related attitudes, habits, behaviors, dress, and communication skills necessary to obtain and maintain employment.Evaluate student vocational skills and behavior to assist in determining work readiness, abilities, interests, and preferences.Disseminate information to parents and students on the purpose and expected outcomes of participation in transition planning.Disseminate information to parents and students on the purpose and expected outcomes of work-based learning.Provide a continuum of supports and services to employers of transition students:regularly scheduled job site visits;on-going communication (written correspondence, phone calls, e-mail, etc.on-the-job supports/job coachingCollaborate with employers to provide learning opportunities for transition.Maintain and document ongoing contact with employers.Network with local business and community leaders to gain knowledge of the job market in the community and help develop job sites.Collaborate with other service providers in building employability skills for transition students.Maintain an active role in developing positive public relations between school and community.Perform all duties in a safe manner to avoid injury to oneself and/or to others.Perform other related duties as assigned.
