Works under the supervision of the school Principal. Implements the curriculum set forth by the Sonora School Site Council and the governing Board of Sonora School District applicable to his/her particular assignment.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION TEACHER
JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: Physical Education Teacher
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelor's Degree or equivalent.
2. Hold a valid California State Teacher Credential - Single Subject: Physical Education
3. Hold a valid driver's license with no serious violations.
4. Hold and maintain CPR certification and first aid certification.
REPORTS TO: Principal
OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide instruction using principles of human development and appropriate
learning strategies to enable students to make physical and personal growth with a positive attitude towards skills involved in physical activity.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provide instruction in Physical Education as assigned.
2. Prepare materials and equipment necessary for lessons.
3. Implement policies, procedures, and mandates as required to ensure the safety of students.
4. Prepare and submit requested grades and State assessments in an accurate and timely manner.
5. Participate in professional development, and provide training for P.E. aides.
6. Participate in school, District, and department activities and meetings.
7. Work with other staff including administration, counseling, clerical, and other teachers, to establish sportsmanship as a key ingredient for physical activity.
8. Provide instruction and compliance activities in accordance with state and federal law, District policies and procedures, and site needs.
9. Work with parents and community members to provide for the balance between academic instructional needs and physical education.
10. Foster positive relationships between students, staff, and community members to encourage physical conditioning, team work and controlled competitiveness.
11. Supervise students to assure their safety.
12. Monitor student achievement and adjust instructions in response to student performance and physical development.
13. Provide the appropriate instructional time for physical education as set by Education Code 51210, 51222 and 51225.3.
14. Performs other duties as many, from time to time be assigned by the supervisor.
SPECIFIC ABILITY TO:
1. Assist in array of learners in developing age appropriate knowledge and skills.
2. Maintain patience when confronted with challenges and stressful situations.
3. Contribute to the successful fulfillment of the District Mission.
4. Work cooperatively with others to make plans and decisions and to implement programs and activities.
5. Conduct responsibilities of the position based on information and instructions provided in English.
6. Learn and appropriately apply District policies and procedures and other regulations related to the position.
7. Apply strategies appropriate to the age level of the assigned students.
8. Maintain appropriate confidentiality about the status of students, classroom, and school activities.
9. Gather and analyze data to determine student's abilities and instructional needs.
10. Operate computer, and/or iPad
11. Learn and apply current technology to assigned duties.

2. Manual skill to appropriately control and manipulate objects, tools, materials, and equipment used on the job, including a telephone and a computer.
3. Flexibility and strength to reach with hands and arms, bend and stoop.
4. Ability to hear and understand speech at normal room levels, and to hear and understand speech on the telephone.
5. Ability to speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in normal conversations and on the telephone.
6. Ability to see, read, and distinguish colors, with or without vision aids: computer screen, equipment used in the work environment, instructional materials, training materials, directions, rules, policies, calendars,
agendas, manuals, and other printed matter.
7. Physical strength and agility to push, pull, squat, twist, turn, and lift and carry bulky objects of up to 80 pounds with or without assistance.
8. Mental acuity to perform the essential functions of this position in a safe, accurate, neat, and timely fashion and to make and evaluate the results of judgments and decisions
9. Ability to drive district vehicles.
10. High tolerance for continuing stressful situations.
