Description:  Driver's Education Teacher - Summer 2023
Terms of Employment:  
EPER Position - July-August 2023
Reports to:  Building Principal
Salary:  EPER Salary schedule 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS

 

The minimum performance expectations include, but are not limited to, the following functions/tasks:

 
  • Provide students with a minimum of thirty (30) class hours of instruction virtually and when allowable seven (7) class hours of in the car behind the wheel laboratory instruction and seven (7) hours of actual observation in the car.  

  • Teaches on-road driver education skills based on the approved Delaware State-Wide Curriculum and adapts Learning Focused strategies to the lessons; 

 
  • Develop daily lesson plans utilizing the lesson planning format and approved template;

  • Maintains accurate records of off-road driver education activities and times as prescribed by the State of Delaware; 

  • Submits grades on eSchool in a timely manner and coordinates the submission of grades to the Delaware Department of Education of the pass or fail grades of students in accordance with summer school timelines

  • Ensures the adequate supervision of students in the classroom and while driving; 

  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities; 

 
  • Complies with and supports school and state regulations and policies; 

  • Communicates with students, student counselors, special services, and parents through conferences, phone, emails, and other means as necessary to support students; 

  • Maintains licensure at the state and/or national level; assumes responsibility for professional growth and keeps materials, supplies, and skills up-to-date; 

  • Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities; 

  • Performs related duties as assigned by the administration in accordance with the school/system policies and practices. 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

 

Thorough knowledge of driver safety; thorough knowledge of the principles and methodology of effective teaching; thorough knowledge of school division rules, regulations and procedures; ability to establish and maintain proper standards of behavior; ability to deliver articulate oral instructions; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, students, and parents.  Physical and mental acuity is critical for quick thinking in this role.  Regular instruction to special needs children may be necessary. Regular contact with staff members, administration, and parents is required. Frequent contact with parents by phone and in person may be necessary. Occasional contact with medical professionals may be required. When applicable, daily personal and close contact with students to provide Drivers Education instruction and learning environment support is required and respect of this proximity is a must.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

 

Candidate must be a graduate of an accredited college or university and possess or be eligible to acquire appropriate license(s) and/or endorsement(s) for position as required by the State of Delaware with a minimum of a bachelor's degree in any field; a minimum of twelve (12) semester hours of pedagogy courses and nine (9) semester hours in service courses as approved by the State of Delaware.  The teacher must have a valid Delaware driver's license and a clear driving record with no suspensions, revoked or disqualified in this or any other state.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

  • Favorable Criminal Background Check and Child Abuse Registry Check for the candidate who is offered employment
  • Tuberculin Test and physical
  • Mandatory Direct Deposit of paycheck
