General Function:
The Assistant Director of Digital Learning - Academic Support serves as the primary district
leader responsible for thoughtful and effective classroom technology use. The Assistant
Director manages, and further develops, the Digital Learning Coach program, created to support
best practices in teaching and learning, with technology as an integral support. The Assistant
Director will be responsible for building a district culture around the effective use of technology
within all classrooms, and will serve as the primary liaison between departments and schools to
ensure educationally appropriate digital resources are selected, integrated and supported.
Education/Training/Experience
Minimum: New Mexico Administrative License (or Level 2 teaching license and current
enrollment in a program leading to NM Administrative License within three years of hire
date). 6 years of K-12 teaching experience. 4 years of K-12 classroom teacher support in a
coaching model. Knowledge of adult learning theory. Experience managing programs and
staff.
Preferred: Master's Degree in Instructional Technology, Educational Leadership,
Information Technology, or related field of study. Current NM Administrative License.
Extensive teaching experience with ability to provide evidence of the use of technology as a
primary support for best practice teaching and learning. Experience developing and
managing K-12 programs, with a focus on sustainability and the ability to develop, collect,
analyze and communicate appropriate metrics to show Value of Investment. Experience
directing and evaluating program staff in a K-12 environment. Experience leading change
management initiatives within a K-12 environment. CETL certification. Experience in
planning / providing technology-based school or district professional development.
Experience managing staff within an asset focused coaching and development model.
Knowledge/Skills and Abilities:
Ability to work with multiple stakeholders (teachers, students, parents, administrators,
contractors, community members). Ability to relate to stakeholders with diverse backgrounds
and needs. Ability to relate to stakeholders with diverse experiences with technology integration.
Strong background integrating technology in the classroom to improve instruction. Excellent
written and oral communication. Ability to multitask, prioritize work activities, and meet
deadlines. Use of technology for data collection, analysis and reporting to promote academic
achievement. Must be highly organized.
Essential Job Functions:
All functions are performed in accordance with established policies, procedures, safety and
environmental regulations, facility and computer security policies and procedures. Functions are
subject to change from time to time to meet the needs of the District. Current essential functions
include but are not limited to the following:
1. Perform the Digital Learning Coach functions for one school in order to remain actively
involved and informed around the work and needs of the program.
2. Manage the Digital Learning Coach program, with specific focus on program
improvement and ability to collect, analyze and communicate essential metrics.
3. Model the effective use of instructional technology to make connections among
curriculum, instruction, engagement, and learning.
4. Maintain an active awareness of current and emerging information, trends and
applications for technology and learning.
5. Help to identify and develop programs essential to the expansion of the use of Digital
resources as a key support in best practice teaching and learning.
6. Provide recommendations for teacher staff development relative to technology
integration and use of classroom tools and applications.
7. Collaborate with the Assistant Director of Digital Learning - Systems Support to ensure
effective learning systems integration and support.
8. Research innovative classroom technologies, software and Web 2.0 tools used to
enhance student Learning and teacher productivity.
9. Collaborate with all SFPS departments to align technology best practices with policies
and procedures.
10. Actively work to develop a Digital Citizenship program for all SFPS student that
becomes an integral part of teaching and learning.
11. Other duties as assigned by the Digital Learning Director.
Resources Used in Performing Job Include (but are not limited to):
Standard Office and Classroom equipment including computers, classroom technologies,
tablets, apps, copiers, fax, phone systems, e-mail, and alarm systems. Automobile to travel to
other district buildings.
Salary Range:
$75,000.00 - $95,000.00
Physical/Cognitive Requirements:
Walking, standing. Alternate high energy with long periods of time sitting in meetings. Travel to
community/district meetings and events. Ability to lift 25 pounds.
Environmental Conditions:
Work is performed both in classrooms and in a standard office environment. Position requires
driving among school sites to attend meetings and trainings, some of which occur in the
evening. Heavy telephone and interaction with, district staff and community. Frequent
interruptions.
Personal Accountability:
1. Demonstrates reliability as evidenced by attendance records and punctuality.
2. Properly notifies supervisor and/or designee of absences or tardiness.
3. Begins and completes work within the allotted time.
4. Consistently appears in attire appropriate to the work environment.
5. Demonstrates skill in the use of equipment including its capabilities, limitations and
appropriate/ special application.
6. Protects the District's resources through appropriate and careful use of supplies and
equipment.
7. Utilizes appropriate body mechanics to aid in the prevention of muscle strain/injury.
