Job description

The Villages Charter School (VCS) opened in August, 2000 and is one of the most successful public charter schools in Florida. In fact, VCS has been a "High Performing Charter School", earned a "School of Excellence" and has received 19 straight "A" ratings from the Florida Department of Education! This year, VCS earned the "Cognia School and Systems of Distinction" from the international accreditation group Cognia.
The Villages Charter School currently consists of 5 buildings (three elementary centers, one middle school and one high school) with an enrollment of over 3,450. In the fall of 2023, VCS will open a K-8 center (with an enrollment capacity of 2,000) and relocate The Villages High School with an expanded enrollment capacity of 2,000 bringing our total enrollment capacity across all buildings to approximately 6,500.

DESCRIPTION:
The Villages Charter Elementary School is accepting applications for an Instructional Interventionist for the 2023-2024 school year. This position will coordinate with the classroom teachers to provide additional direct support to students in core academic subjects.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
To provide an educational atmosphere in which students will move toward the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and psychological growth and maturation in accordance with the mission and goals of The Villages Charter School and the District.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The expectations include the following and other duties as assigned:

  • Provide direct academic intervention services for identified "students-in-need."
  • Utilize small group instruction to address learning gaps, bridge the gap as indicated on weekly standards-based assessment data or other data provided by core teachers during non-core class periods e.g. physical education, art, etc.
  • Meet with teachers for data chats
  • Collaborate with the ELA and/or Math teacher for students not making adequate progress toward closing the achievement gap.
  • Complete data worksheet for any student not making adequate progress and submit to the grade level administrator.
  • Communicate with parents to answer any questions or concerns regarding the interventions provided.
  • Track the number of individual or group sessions provided for each student in each core class to show evidence that support was provided to identified students.

QUALIFICATIONS
Preference will be given to applicants that have a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree with some teaching experience.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to manipulate objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms, and talk and hear. The employee may be required to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
203 days - Exempt. Benefits shall be paid consistent with the VCS policy. Length of the work year and hours of employment are those established by the Board.
Part-Time positions are also available.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of TVCS policy on evaluations of personnel.
