Description

Float positions are required to work shifts at various different locations within the PSRB programs and include a $1.00/hr. pay differential. A shift differential may also be included, depending on the shift you work. This is an overnight float position that includes a $3.00/hr. differential, not included in the base pay. The schedule for this position is variable and works across our double-staffed programs in the PSRB.

 

Under close supervision, the Mental Health Aide I or II works as a member of an interdisciplinary team to implement and monitor treatment for residents within the residential program. This position works with residents who are under the supervision of the Psychiatric Security Review Board (PSRB), as well as with other adults with severe and persistent mental illness. Clients may have co-occurring disorders including but not limited to traumatic brain injuries (TBI), substance use and addictions, and/or developmental delays. This position involves participation and implementation of program goals and objectives to promote a strengths-based, resident-centered approach to assisting residents in achieving individual goals and ultimately transitioning to a less restrictive setting.

 

Our PSRB Residential Treatment homes are as follows:

  • Pisgah is A 16-bed facility located in Southeast Portland. There are 6 PSRB beds and 10 Extended Care Management Unity (ECMU). Individuals are here from three to seven years and then move on to either less staffing or independent living in the community. We provide medication management, monitoring and treatment to the majority of our individuals.
  • El Dorado, located in SE Portland, is a 5-bed home and supports those who have a Mental Health diagnoses and live with a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).
  • Orchid, a 6-bed home, located in SW Portland, in Multnomah Village, also support those who have a Mental Health diagnosis's and live with a TBI. For both Orchid and El Dorado, the residential and clinic staff are in communication about each residents conditions as they relate to passes, medication oversight, curfew, money management, independent living abilities, risk factors, and structured treatment requirements.

With the high prevalence of trauma among individuals receiving behavioral health services, it is required that the incumbent understand the effects of trauma on health, coping, and other aspects of the lives of those we serve.

Essential Duties:

  • Provide monitoring and supervision for clients under the jurisdiction of the PSRB and assist clients with developing and maintaining structured activities in accordance with their goals and the terms of their conditional release into the community.
  • Provide therapeutic interventions with residents as required and directed by the Mental Health treatment plan and complete all subsequent documentation.
  • Act in the role of Primary Treatment Coordinator and complete all subsequent documentation.
  • Comply with all program regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Respond to crisis situations as appropriate, following emergency protocols and procedures.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of fire regulations and evacuation procedures; hold regular fire safety drills with residents.
  • Assist in meal set-up, preparation, serving, and clean up. Perform other household chores as needed, including but not limited to, light housekeeping and cleaning of biohazards.
  • Administer medication, as trained, in compliance with prescriber orders. Must remain up-to-date on all delegated tasks. Complete delegated tasks in compliance with prescriber orders.
  • Accompany and assist residents in attending appointments in the community.
  • Document and maintain clinical records in a manner that assures compliance with all agency policies and procedures and local, state, and federal regulations. Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation as required. Complete documentation in electronic medical record (EMR) as required using Cascadia software.
  • Maintain safety of residents; maintain awareness of each residents whereabouts.
  • Maintain integrity and cleanliness of program property.
  • Adhere to mandatory abuse reporting and HIPAA laws.
  • Respect and honor resident rights and responsibilities and demonstrate professional boundaries and ethics.
  • Provide input and feedback into the establishment of operational procedures.
  • Coordinate with all program staff regarding resident concerns, building/program needs, and any relevant issues to ensure smooth operation.
  • Provide input toward all service plans in collaboration with the treatment team.
  • Utilize scheduling software.
  • This position will require the employee to work at all programs within the division based on need. Staff may be moved from their regular shift location to fulfill a staffing need within the division.
  • Complete annual employee training requirements on a timely basis as indicated in the licensing requirements (if applicable) for the program, as well as agency requirements. Attend seminars, training, and other educational opportunities in order to develop professional skills and abilities.
  • Participate in all scheduled staff meetings, supervision sessions, and other departmental and agency meetings. Float and on-call employees are required to collaborate with their supervisor to determine which staff meetings will be required.
  • Stay awake on all shifts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  • Mental Health Aide I requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Mental Health Aide II must meet the requirements and demonstrate the competencies to be credentialed as a Qualified Mental Health Associate (QMHA). Must have a Bachelors Degree in a behavioral science field from an accredited college or university or three years of Mental Health work experience or a combination of work experience and education. Certification must be current and in compliance with MHACBO.
  • Some work experience working with adults with severe and persistent mental illness is preferred.

  • Must have the ability to perform CPR, First Aid, and properly use AED equipment. CPR/ First Aid certifications are required and must remain current.

 

Working Conditions:

  • Environmental: Work is performed in various residential settings. The nature of the work dictates that the employee is alert and attentive during assigned shift. Rest breaks and meal periods are subject to interruption. On occasion, the employee may be required to perform tasks of other employees. There is moderate to high risk of personal injury/illness due to violent behavior, exposure to disease, biohazards, noise, and contaminants.
  • Operating hours: This position operates within a 24/7 program and shifts are generally, day, swing and overnight shifts. There will be times the incumbent is required to work hours in addition to their regularly scheduled shift; they may be required to work a double shift due to the staffing requirements within each program.
  • Mental Demands: The Residential Counselor will have a varied routine which requires the ability to address new and unusual circumstances where potential outcomes may negatively affect costs, employee morale, or resident well-being. A degree of unpredictability and disruption to work tasks should be expected. This requires flexible time management.
  • Physical Demands: The Residential Counselor must have the ability to assist residents in participating in a variety of activities, including but not limited to skill building outings, accessing community resources, and recreation. The Residential Counselor must have the ability to provide safety to all residents and staff in potentially volatile situations. When the need arises, the Residential Counselor may be required to perform non-violent physical interventions including evasion.
