The 1:1 School LPN/LVN identifies and treatshealth disorders among students in the school setting. The 1:1 School LPN/LVNprovides instruction for the student's general wellbeing and diseaseprevention. The School LPN/LVN monitors the student's physical conditions inthe school setting and refers the student to appropriate resources as needed. The work of the School LPN/LVN is performed in compliance with his/her LPN/LVNscope of practice and according to state education codes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides first aid care and medically prescribed services
- Maintains security of school health supplies and medication in the school setting
- Provides follow-up evaluations on students as required
- Corresponds with parents on health needs of children
- Records immunizations, health findings, and other relevant health data
- Identifies abnormal growth and development, symptoms of disease and discuss with parents
- Develops and maintains health records on students
- Develops positive working relationships
- Supports student medical needs during transport as applicable
Minimum Requirements:
- Current LPN/LVN license for the state in which the nurse practices
- Current PPD or Chest X-Ray
- One year prior professional nursing experience in school setting preferred
- Pediatric experience preferred
- Current BLS card
- Considerable knowledge of medical disorders and treatment
- Considerable knowledge of child growth and development
- Some knowledge of public health problems and procedures for treatment in coordination with other health and social service agencies
- Some knowledge of Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations affecting the delivery of school health services
- Understands the school organization and the community served
- Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language is required
- Computer proficiency preferred
- Must be at least 18 years of age
