Job Objective: The Youth Family Ministries Coordinator will evangelize and disciple youth and families through The Salvation Army's programs. They will work alongside the Corps Officer and existing leaders to fulfill The Salvation Army's mission of saving the lost, serving suffering humanity and making disciples for Jesus.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree or an associate degree from an accredited school or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
Experience: Minimum of two years' experience in youth ministries; equivalent volunteer experience considered; experience in evangelism and discipleship
Salvation Army Membership: Be a soldier (member of the Salvation Army) in good standing or be willing to explore The Salvation Army church membership
Age: Must be at least 21 years old
Certifications/Licenses: None
Skills/Abilities:
Supervisory Responsibility: Supervise volunteers as directed
Physical Requirements: Include vision, hearing, and speaking; actively participating in indoor and outdoor activities with children, standing for long periods of time; walking, running, bending, reaching; lifting up to 25 lbs. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions of this job.
Travel: Some travel to camps, events, workshops and seminars as required
Driving: Must possess an appropriate, valid driver's license from the state of residence. Must be approved through The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program to drive either a Salvation Army or personal vehicle on Salvation Army business
Working Conditions: Work is performed in a typical office environment with some outdoor work required; evening and occasional weekend work will be required.

Essential Functions:
General Responsibilities
- Will be responsible for youth programs and training of volunteer youth leaders
- Will attend the Salvation Army's Sunday worship in order to develop relationships with youth and leaders
- Meet attendance guidelines as stated in Employee Handbook
- Be punctual in attendance
- Work with the Corps Officer to set a weekly schedule
- Meet weekly with the Corps Officer to review weekly activities and plans
- Attend and participate in Corps staff meetings
- Create a database or list of youth and families in the Corps and those that live in the Corps community
- Connect with existing youth leaders at the corps
- Teach one of the required programs of The Salvation Army (Sunday school, Soldiers, Corps Cadets, VBS)
- Plan, schedule, coordinate and facilitate a variety of activities and events for youth and families
- Oversee evangelism, discipleship and outreach that will provide educational, recreational and spiritual development through the Corps programming
- Increase local Corps ministry with young people in the neighborhood and community through purposeful outreach and service
- Record and maintain statistical information regarding youth related activities and participants
- Identify and encourage new leadership potential from within or outside of the Corps to fill current and future leadership needs
- Ensure that Safe from Harm guidelines are instituted and followed in the local setting
- Attend and participate in Divisional weekend events
- Complete Divisional reports
- Intentionally seek and meet regularly with a mentor and or small group for personal fellowship, spiritual formation and accountability
- Participate as needed in the Young People Pastoral Care Council and/or Corps Council
Youth Responsibilities
- Develop programs that will meet the needs of youth and families in the community
- Engage youth in The Salvation Army distinctive programs
- Serve as an intentional mentor and role model
- Provide individual spiritual guidance to youth and families
- Be available to respond to emergency situations outside of normal hours of work
- Creatively develop programming to Crossroads Family Shelter youth
Family Responsibilities
- Engage with parents through calls, home visits and intentional communication
- Provide and collect all permission slips and photo release for related activities
- Plan activities that include the parents
- Creatively develop programming to support Crossroads Family Shelter families
Existing Youth Leaders Responsibilities
- Build and maintain a working relationship with the existing youth leaders
- Ensure that Safe from Harm guidelines are instituted and followed in the local setting
Community Responsibilities
- Engage communities and neighborhood organizations through outreach and service

- Display spiritual depth, emotional consistency, and Christ-like character
- Have knowledge of the Bible
- Have experience in evangelism and discipleship
- Ability to speak, read and write English in a manner that is sufficient for clear communication
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of youth ministries and program development
- The ability to organize work, set priorities, meet deadlines, and complete tasks with a minimum amount of direction
- The ability to prepare reports, correspondence, and other written materials
- The ability to interpret youth ministry materials to determine if they agree with Wesleyan theology
- Meet dress code guidelines as stated in Employee's Handbook
- The ability to use Salvation Army approved computer software
