The Materials Characterization Discipline is seeking an experienced professional to work within and grow our team. The xCT Engineer will work within inter-disciplinary teams, including new Materials Development, Failure Analysis, Design/Structures, Quality, and Manufacturing, to define xCT scanning and analysis approaches to directly impact new materials technology development programs, determine root cause for Engine Safety Investigations, and provide critical engineering data for Manufacturing/Quality issue resolution. This role will be responsible for advancing measurement technologies by developing novel approach to scan parts and analyze large 3D data sets.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate directly with Engineering customers to define work scope and data requirements for morphological features within various jet engine hardware
  • Utilize in-house and external xCT capabilities to deliver needed customer data, such as cooling hole morphology, crack propagation/growth, and other quantifiable metrics impacting part performance
  • Create and implement strategies, procedures, and workflows to promote efficiency and data quality, including in the areas of automation and batch processing
  • Develop strategic roadmap for external partnerships in scanning and image process to meet growing demand for xCT within the Engineering, Operations, and Quality functions
  • Identify, investigate, and develop external partnerships with national laboratories, government partners, and universities, to utilize latest technology for higher resolution scanning and sophisticated image processing
  • Train engineers and technicians on advanced characterization techniques

Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant field with heavy emphasis in materials characterization techniques (Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, etc.) with 8+ years of relevant experience OR
  • Master's Degree in relevant field with heavy emphasis in materials characterization techniques (Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, etc.) with 5+ years of relevant experience
  • Background in at least one of the following X-ray characterization techniques: X-ray computed tomography, X-ray diffraction, X-ray fluorescence, X-ray absorption spectroscopy, Laue diffraction
  • Fundamental knowledge of X-ray physics (absorption, scattering, fluorescence, etc.)
  • US Citizenship due to Military Program Requirements

Preferred Qualifications:
  • PhD in relevant field with heavy emphasis in materials characterization techniques (Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, etc.)
  • Leadership in development and implementation of advanced characterization techniques
  • Coding experience for image analysis and data quantification (Matlab and/or Python preferred)
  • Image analysis experience, particularly with software such as Volume Graphics, Avizo, and Dragonfly
  • Experience working in large collaborative teams to solve technically difficult problems
  • Proficient at presenting technical data to both technical and non-technical audiences
