Volunteer & Homeowner Services Coordinator

Tentative start - Winter 2023 or open until filled

This full-time AmeriCorps service position offers a great opportunity to make a real impact in the lives of others while building your own knowledge and skillset.  

AmeriCorps National members serve the community in direct service and capacity building activities. 

What will you do?  

The volunteer and homeowner services coordinator helps recruit, and train local volunteers and homeowners. They build relationships in the community to grow the overall volunteer and qualified homeowner base and advance individual and group partnerships. They market within the community to recruit new volunteers and develop new events and opportunities for volunteers to engage with the mission of Habitat for Humanity. They assist with all aspects of volunteer management, including initial orientation, database maintenance and tracking, and promoting volunteer opportunities as they arise. 

They serve as the main point of contact as each potential homeowner goes through the application process. Together with a homeowner selection committee, they help approve homeowners for a variety of housing products including new home construction, repair or rehab of existing homes and weatherization projects. *Assist with all aspects of volunteer management including orientations, maintenance of database, volunteer tracking and follow-up.  

*Work with construction staff members to ensure successful volunteer build days - signing volunteers in, providing orientation and safety briefings, helping put away tools with volunteers at the end of the day and ordering necessary volunteer supplies.  
*Develop and/or revise volunteer recruitment, management, and recognition tools. 
*Coordinate existing programs to recruit homeowner applicants for traditional homeownership opportunities or for expanded housing products such rehab, repair or weatherization. 
*Conduct applicant orientations and assist individuals and families throughout process of completing the housing application. 
*Work with the homeowner services committee and staff members to provide educational opportunities to homeowner families.  
*On occasion, build alongside homeowner families as they complete their homeownership requirements. This position will focus on brand management, homeowner services and volunteer services aspects of Habitat affiliate operations.

Green Country Habitat for Humanity (GCHFH) has served families in Tulsa County since 1988. Through home sponsorships, individual donations, and volunteer work, our organization can build safe, quality, beautiful homes with affordable, low-interest mortgages to families who cannot afford a traditional mortgage. GCHFH works directly with homeowners to ensure that housing expenses are not a cost burden. Our homebuyer program incorporates volunteer work and courses on homeownership to emphasize the importance of community involvement and education.

According to the City of Tulsa's Affordable Housing Strategy, Tulsa needs over 4,000 additional affordable housing units to meet the current demand. Our organization is working to addresses this community need by setting a goal to build 250 affordable, quality homes in North Tulsa within five years. Since March of 2021, we have built 43 homes in our service area with 35 of those homes located in North Tulsa. We are excited to host AmeriCorps members to help us reach our goal by physically building a way for families to break the cycle of poverty.

Benefits of AmeriCorps service 

*Living allowance $17,000 for approximately 10 months of service.
*Segal Education Award of $6,495, upon successful completion of service.

Minimum Requirements 

Applicants must be a U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident at least 18 or older and have a high school diploma or GED. 

Preferred Qualifications 

*Knowledge of, and willingness to promote, the mission and activities of Habitat for Humanity International and AmeriCorps.
*Ability to work with a diverse group of people.
*Strong written and verbal communication skills.
*Detail oriented and highly organized.
*Experience working with volunteers, teaching or group facilitation.
*Experience working as a member of a team.
*Basic experience with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word and Excel.
