Job description

These positions are located in the Pacific Northwest Region, Region 6 and will be located on a Forest Service unit.

The primary purpose of these positions is to provide customer service such as greeting visitors, responding to routine inquiries from a variety of customers and providing overall support to administrative staff.

General & Specialized Experience Requirement:

For the GS-04
: Applicants must have one year of progressively responsible clerical office, or other work which provided the knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position being filled;
OR
An associate's degree or two years of successfully completed education above high school;
OR
Acombination of successfully completed post-high school education and experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
Examples of qualifying general experience include meeting one or more of the following: Clerical, office, or other customer service work such as greeting visitors and responding to phone or written inquiries, using word processing software or other automated software to produce routine documents; or collecting funds from sales.

For the GS-05: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-4 grade level;
OR
A bachelor's degree or 4 years of successfully completed education above high school.
OR
A combination of successfully completed post-high school education (in excess of the first 60 semester hours) and specialized experience. The education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
Examples of qualifying specialized experience include meeting two or more of the following: Communicated with people and represented the organization to customers and other external sources in person, by phone, or in writing. Compared disputed merchandise with original requisitions and information from invoices. Resolved customer service or billing complaints by performing activities such as exchanged merchandise, refunded money, or adjusted bills. Reconciled records of sales or other financial transactions. Used computers and computers systems (including hardware or software) to extract information or create standard reports.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Work Experience: Your resume must clearly document the following for each block of work experience; the beginning day, month and year the work assignment started and ended; the hours worked per week; position title, and series and grade if applicable; and description of duties performed. This information must be provided for each permanent, temporary or seasonal appointment/work assignment or volunteer work and should be clearly documented as a separate block of time. Incomplete, inaccurate or conflicting work history may not be credited for qualifications purposes.
