Job Title: Visitor Engagement Coordinator
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Hours: Full-time
About the role:
Visitor Engagement Coordinator is a full-time position reporting directly to the Education Program Manager- Visitor and Volunteer Engagement. The function of this position is to to create, implement, facilitate, maintain, and evaluate the Zoo and Wildlife Safari Park visitor experience programs; promote the Zoo and Wildlife Safari Park mission, goals, objectives and to provide positive Zoo and Wildlife Safari Park experiences for visitors, volunteers, and staff.
Duties and Responsibilities (include but not limited to):
The Visitor Engagement Coordinator is responsible for general visitors experiences and programs at the Zoo and Wildlife Safari Park. The function is to create a dynamic learning experience to connect individuals to nature and conservation of wildlife and wild places.
- Promote positive visitor experiences and conservation messaging to guests of all ages throughout the Zoo and Wildlife Safari Park through a variety of programs insuring personal connections to the Zoo/WSP and its mission.
- Develop and implement revenue generating programs and programs for visitors with general admission that will provide personal facilitated experiences.
- Develop engaging messaging and content for public programs, presentations, and tours
- Assist with writing content for graphics, exhibits and creation of interpretation plans.
- Manage visitor experience program staff -including hiring, training, scheduling and performance reviews.
- Oversee evaluations for visitor experience programs
- Provide excellent customer service to general visitors through interpersonal and communication skills.
- Work cooperatively with animal care staff to ensure animals are utilized as ambassadors with appropriate messaging during public programs
- Animal Ambassador education liaison for the education department (submits monthly animal requests and conducts animal ambassador handler training on messaging, content, and delivery)
- Works with marketing team to promote all visitor experience programs at the Zoo and Wildlife Safari Park to the public
- Assist in preparation of grant proposals and newsletter articles (enews, Facebook, and zooprints).
- Flexibility in scheduling: Ability to work weekends, holidays and after- hour assignments. (Sunday- Thursday)
- Education Duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Bachelors degree in education, environmental education, museum studies, or communications preferred
- Excellent leadership qualities, communication skills, decision making skills, personal initiative skills, planning skills, relationship skills; and safety
- Enjoy working with people of all ages and backgrounds
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and volunteer management systems
Candidates might be (depending on position) required to pass a pre-employment background check, drug test, negative skin tuberculosis test, and possess a valid drivers license with a good history.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort:
- Must be able to walk long distances across the zoo.
- Must be able to stand, sit, kneel, bend, twist, reach above head and climb.
- Will lift, push, pull, and/or move up to 20 pounds and occasionally up to 40 pounds using safe and proper lifting methods.
