Position summary:

The Vision and Controls Software Engineer provides technical leadership, expertise and guidance in the development and implementation of automated high speed machine vision applications used in the manufacturing and packaging of contact lenses.  This leadership role requires highly specialized software capabilities and proficiency managing the software development life cycle while leading projects and extending expertise within the organization.  A software engineer to design and develop software that controls acquisition, display and disposition of real-time images from cameras and frame grabbers for our industrial vision inspection applications.  Experienced machine vision integration and debug with automated manufacturing systems including  PLCs, HMIs, Servos, Robotics and electrical controls systems.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Industrial machine vision technology is used to analyze imagery (Intensity, color, density, etc.) to detect, identify and localize objects, to make measurements, to inspect for defects, and to read encoded data.

 

  • Work with a team to design prototype and develop next generation user interface.  The application will be written using a mixture of technologies (VB.net, NI Image analysis tools, RSLogix, Cognex Insight, LabVIEW)
  • Build efficient, real time software and related libraries to run either on a PC or embedded platform.
  • Invent, implement and optimize new vision algorithms.
  • USE TFS for software version control.
  • Produce code using design patterns that ensure high quality code.
  • Design hardware and software for custom automated assembly equipment. 
  • Will require travel to supplier locations to oversee.  FATs and installations and commissioning of the machines as well as provide in-house and on-site technical training. 
  • Provide Manufacturing training support, comprehensive systems documentation packages and preventative maintenance procedures for systems applications.
  • Identify, manage and mitigate project risk and resolve project issues.  Interface with internal and external customers and vendors.

 

Qualifications and experience:

  • Education:  Bachelors of Science, EE, CS, and or Masters of Science, EE, Imaging Science or equivalent. 
  • Special Skills:  7-10 years of .net or C++ code development experience.
  • GMP related experience in an FDA regulated environment a plus.  Self-directed individual must possess excellent interpersonal, communication. 
  • Specialized Training:  Knowledge of industry regulations, software development life cycle methodologies, machine vision fundamentals, statistical analysis / solid analytical skills, Minitab, Microsoft Project, AutoCAD, VB.Net Programming, C/C++, SQL, Oracle, Access and industry-leading DCS, LabVIEW, PLC, HMI and MES platforms.
  • 10+ years' experience designing and implementing automated machine vision applications using imaging components cameras, lighting, optics and material handling equipment.  Extensive experience with vision software algorithm development and qualification.  VB.net, Visual Basic, C ++.  Interface of machine vision applications with PLC programs associated with automated high-volume manufacturing and/or process control systems.   including PLC's, DCS's, Machine Vision, motion control, robotics, HMI's, SCADA and MES systems software.
