National Capital Area Command (NCAC) serves National Capital Region families and individuals in crisis (Washington, DC; Maryland; Northern Virginia). We are excited to announce we are hiring a Van Driver & Grate Patrol for the National Capitol Area Command, located in Washington, D.C.

Job Summary

Operates Salvation Army Grate Patrol program vehicle to transport meals, serve meals, transport volunteers, and occasionally distribute supplies to individuals who are homeless and living on the streets of Washington, DC. This is a part time position.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

 

Knowledge of acceptable driving techniques and practices. Knowledge of safety precautions associated with transporting passengers. Ability to drive a passenger vehicle ensuring the safety of passengers and protection of the vehicle. Ability to read and follow maps. Ability to gauge time needed to arrive at destination. Ability to work with volunteers. Ability to work evenings, typically by alternating one week period on duty with one week period off duty. Ability to attend job-related trainings.

Minimum Qualifications Required

Education and Experience

 

High School Diploma or G.E.D.

AND

Two years’ experience operating an automotive vehicle,

OR

Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Licenses & Certifications

 

Valid Driver's License and must meet TSA MVR Requirements.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

 

Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language. Ability to drive a vehicle in heavy traffic and extended trips.

Work requires driving a vehicle where there may be physical discomforts associated with changes in weather such as rain, cold, snow, heat or discomforts associated with long distance trips or heavy traffic.
