Job Description
The UCMD is an integral part of the hospital leadership team which includes the Practice Manager- who we call “Head of Culture” (HOC), and other Medical Directors. Together, they are primarily responsible for the maintenance of overall conditions (including culture, morale, and professionalism) that drive the favorable financial performance of the hospital. Their leadership is oriented toward achieving and extending the core values of PAZ. In addition to the responsibilities specific to the role of UC Medical Director, the UCMD also fulfills all of the responsibilities and obligations of a practicing veterinarian.
Key Responsibilities
- Establishing and maintaining the Urgent Care Department of Paz to the highest level of medical quality, patient care, and client service
- Achieving goals through consistent constructive participation in operational leadership meetings
- Providing mentorship and a positive role model for the associate veterinarians and staff
- Demonstrate integrity and demand it from others
- Maintains an approachable attitude and is readily accessible to associate doctors
- Implements initiatives and amplifies information from CMO and/or the Operations Team
- Executes and maintains consistent medical standards and guidelines within the hospital
- Consistently positive influence and exhibits the core values of PAZ
Education and Experience
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or equivalent
- Current on advancements in veterinary medicine and completes a minimum of 17 hours of accredited CE per calendar year
- Maintains a current Texas veterinary license to practice, DEA license, and appropriate liability insurance coverage
- 5+ years of experience practicing small animal veterinary medicine
- 3+ years of experience practicing in either emergent or urgent care (emergency surgery proficiency preferred)
- 3+ years of medical director/management experience preferred
- A strong work ethic, patience, a sense of humor, and a consistently positive attitude are also essential
- Understands the importance of empathy, humility, confidence, positivity, and pragmatism; understands that these ideals are not contradictory
