Job Title: District Truancy and Residency Officer
Reports To: Building Principal(s) and Director of Academic Services
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Work Days: 190 Anticipated 7.25 hours per day at a rate of $25.00/hr
JOB SUMMARY
Under the general supervision of the Building Principal(s) and the Director of Academic Services, the primary focus of the Truancy and Residency Officer (TRO) will focus on helping students succeed through regular school attendance by making home visits, school visits, schedule local truancy review meetings, and make referrals to various social service agencies. When necessary, the TRO will investigate district residency questions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintain knowledge of state, local, and district guidelines on attendance and Residency
Interpret pertinent laws and school handbook policies on attendance
Gather and assess attendance data for district schools
Monitor occurrences of extreme absenteeism, unexcused absences, and excessive tardiness
Look for patterns that indicate a student may be at risk
Locate students that are habitually missing from school
Determine the underlying cause of ongoing absences
Meet with parents and students to discuss attendance issues
Work with teachers and administrators to implement absence-mitigation strategies
Ensure compliance with compulsory attendance laws
Write and submit case reports on investigative findings and resolution
Report issues of concern to child services or law enforcement
Investigate questions that arise related to student residency
Conduct routine perimeter checks to ensure the building is secure
Be assertive while engaging students in the hallways
Monitor student's hallway behavior
Maintain high visibility during student arrival and dismissal times as well as during passing periods
Assist with traffic control when necessary before and after school
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Experience with working in a school and/or security setting preferred
Associate's degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution of higher education; completed 60 semester hours of college credit at a regionally accredited institution of higher education; HS Diploma or GED and a score of 460 or higher on the ETS Parapro; or HS Diploma or GED and passing scores on the ACT Workkeys
Must be at least 19 years of age
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills to work with teachers, education support personnel, building administrators, families, and the general public
Enforce school regulations and policies in a professional manner
Ability to maintain good working relationships with fellow employees and students
Must be detail oriented
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of state, local, and district guidelines on attendance and Residency
Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis and the formulation of action plans.
Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
Ability to use computer network system and software applications as needed.
Ability to organize and coordinate work.
Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
