Nicotine Free Statement: To further our mission in providing quality, compassionate care to everyone, Barton Health will not hire individuals who use or test positive for nicotine or tobacco products. Summary of Position:
The Trauma Program - RN will work in collaboration with the Trauma Medical Director (TMD) and the Trauma Program Manager (TPM) to improve the quality of trauma care throughout the hospital areas that affect trauma patients. The Trauma PI RN will facilitate obtaining program requirements and goals necessary for our Level III Trauma Center as outlined by the American College of Surgeons' Standards for Optimal Care of the Injured Patient. Requires the ability to manage challenging situations and have crucial conversations for the purpose of reaching consensus, maintaining accountability, and consistency among healthcare professionals and stakeholders. This includes oversight of the Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation (OPPE) for trauma.

Qualifications
Education:
- Completion of an accredited Nursing program.
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
Experience:
- 3 years of experience in trauma (Emergency or Critical Care) required
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- 1 year of process improvement or quality assurance experience preferred
- Knowledge of Trauma One database preferred
- Proficient computer skills as are required to document, communicate and enter information into the electronic medical records system
- Knowledge of ICD coding, Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) and Injury Severity Scale (ISS) scoring systems preferred
- Intermediate skills with Google Suite, Microsoft Office and Trauma One registry preferred
- Ability to work with minimal supervision, ability to reprioritize workload as needed
- Ability to handle multiple tasks at once and ability to meet deadlines
- In compliance with patient safety standards, must be able to effectively communicate in English; Bilingual abilities preferred
Certifications/Licensure:
- Current California RN license or ability to obtain prior to hire date
- Current CPR/BLS, ACLS and PALS certification by the American Heart Association
- TNCC or within 6 months of hire date
- Society of Trauma Nurses - Trauma Outcomes and Performance Improvement Course (TOPIC), Rural TOPIC preferred, within 6 months of hire
- American Trauma Society - Trauma Program Management Course within 6 months of hire
- Association for the Advancement of Automotive Medicine (AAAM) AIS course obtained within 1 year of hire
- American Trauma Society - Trauma Registry Course, within 6 months of hire
- American Trauma Society - ICD-10 Trauma Injury Coding Course, within 1 year of hire

Essential Functions
- Provides consistently exceptional care at all times.
- Review daily emergency department census for patients meeting NTDB criteria
- Identify PI issues from daily case review
- Maintenance of monthly OPPE schedule
- Annual review of PIPS plan implementation and throughput
- Proactively identifies, designs, and executes remedial efforts, collaborates with emergency medical services, internal departments, external medical facilities, and other trauma related professionals to ensure achievement of best practice in trauma care.
- Participates in the regional, state and national trauma performance improvement activities and Trauma Quality Performance Improvement Plan (TQIP).
- Maintains up to date documentation and data tracking of National Trauma Data Standard (NTDB) patients in the trauma registry, Trauma One.
- Track and complete loop closure for all PI issues in Trauma One database.
- Provides oversight and direction to medical professionals through daily rounding with respective trauma team, monitoring compliance, analyzing, tracking and benchmarking trauma data outcomes and results of performance improvement activities.
- Conducts and incorporates trauma patient research with evidenced-based practice to facilitate improved clinical outcomes.
- Collaborates with the respective trauma leadership team and other key stakeholders to implement the annual Trauma Performance Improvement and Patient Safety (PIPS) Program plan.
- Facilitates monthly Trauma Operational Committee (TOC) and Trauma Peer Review Committee meetings.
- Responds to the needs of the department by performing other duties, as necessary.
