CDM Smith is looking for a Transportation Planner focused in Public Policy, to join our team.
In this role, you will specialize in transportation policy analysis and development. You will also work as part of a multi-disciplinary teams to help identify, analyze, and solve public policy issues and challenges in transportation, including but not limited to funding, technology, energy, emissions, equity, and regulatory reforms. Examples of specific work tasks include:
Conducting stakeholder and community outreach to solicit input on policy proposals
Creating transportation surveys, exhibits, and other meeting materials as necessary, to identify areas of public concern and facilitate public and stakeholder input
Researching, analyzing, and summarizing statutes and regulations
Researching, tracking, and analyzing bills
Reviewing transportation plans for compliance/consistency with applicable local, state and federal laws. Escalates any legal compliance issues as necessary.
Supporting the setup of special-purpose commissions, task forces, and working groups to address policy issues and challenges including invitation design, content preparation and presentations
Assisting the development of papers and memoranda that frame policy issues including alternative solutions, trade-offs, and considerations
May also assist with transportation planning duties such as:
Under general supervision, gathering, compiling and analyzing transportation demographic, economic, land use and/or environmental data including traffic counters, flow data, etc. to create basic to moderate complexity modeling for existing and proposed transportation systems (roads; bridges; highways; tunnels; tolls; transit; rail; freight; aviation; bike/ped.; etc.).
Reviewing existing models and recommends improvements/changes as necessary. Leveraging transportation systems, models, simulations and data to prepare basic to moderate complexity studies of existing or proposed transportation system including: new systems; upgrades or updates to existing systems; re-routing of systems; reviews of existing systems; etc.
Reviewing proposed transportation project sites for alignment with draft designs and plans. Collaborates with engineers to research, analyze or resolve transportation conceptual/schematic design issues.
