Job description

Be in charge of creative transportation solutions that stand out from the crowd

Join our team responsible for making sure our high quality products reach our customers on time, every time. If you like working in a fast-paced environment where no day is the same, then this is the job for you. As a Transportation Manager, you will be responsible for identifying delivery problems, solutions, and improvement of transportation service levels in North America.

Here are some of the things you can look forward to doing:
  • Manage the import and export functions as related to customs clearance, duties, required documents, bookings, tracking and cost control
  • Establish a current freight policy for the Sales Department to communicate to customers - aligned to current market.
  • Quote all international shipments including full containers, LCL, small pack and air freight (includes shipping, packing and document costs)
  • Control all expedited freight (Hot Shot), including booking, quoting, approvals, logging and tracking.
  • Update all dashboards, reports and presentations. Collaborate directly with the Supply Chain Finance Manager to ensure accurate data.
  • Ensure backhaul utilization is optimized reducing freight costs and exceeding benchmarks
  • Reduce the use of brokered or spot market shipments exceeding benchmarks
  • Merge the LTL, truckload and all other transportation costs to ensure proper visibility and cost control
  • Report Dedicated Fleet performance vs. current market conditions
  • Improve the freight cost recovery YOY to exceed established benchmarks
  • Play a key role in the transportation integration of new business ventures (including establishing distribution structure and process)
  • Create and optimize the distribution for our partners (such as National Coating Systems)

To embark on your journey with us, you'll need to be customer focused, an eye for continuous improvement, and ability to connect the day-to-day to the big picture. Having experience in the following is helpful to succeed in this role:
  • Four year college degree and/or related work experience
  • 5+ years' related experience, including managing a private fleet
  • Strong knowledge of transportation regulations and standards, both domestic and international
  • Excellent communicator and proven leadership skills
  • Talent for building and strengthening cross-functional collaboration
  • A known problem solver with strong stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to juggle multiple, high priority responsibilities without skipping a beat
  • Experience working in a highly matrixed organization
  • Flexibility to work extended hours, different shifts, as well as occasional weekends to meet customer requirements
  • Ability to travel up to 20%
