PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The supplemental job duties of the Technical Theatre Director (Teacher) is to assist the head
director to create, implement, direct, monitor, evaluate, and promote the district's visual and
performing arts programs; assist and represent the programs within the community; and provide
leadership, creative, and technical theatre support as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor's degree from accredited university (Degree in Theatre preferred) Valid Texas teaching
certificate in Theatre
Design portfolio preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of subjects assigned
General knowledge of curriculum and instruction Ability to instruct students and manage their
behavior
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills Expert in the Field of Technical
Theatre
Ability to work independently and/or work with groups of students

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Essential Functions:
• Promotes the theatre arts program for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes
and encouraging student development, including the recruitment of students for the program, and
creating opportunities for students to participate.
• Collaborates with a variety of internal and external sources for the purpose of developing or
implementing and maintaining services and/or programs and serving as a liaison and
information/process resource.
• Participates in a wide variety of meetings that involve a range of issues related to performing
arts (e.g., program offerings, funding status, participation levels, scheduling, etc.) for the
purpose of conveying and gathering information, evaluating topics/materials, identifying
appropriate actions, and/or developing recommendations.
• Responds to inquiries of students, other school personnel, community representatives, etc. for
the purpose of providing information, assistance and/or direction regarding the program and student
activities.
• Assist head theatre director in Scenic, Lighting and Technical Design for all school productions.
• Be an integral part of each production's run-crew. Supervise students throughout the duration of
the production process as well as the production run.
• Assist in ensuring compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, regulations and standards
of quality and safety. Implement all theatre safety practices within the scene shop/classroom and
tools.
• Install, maintain, repair, and coordinate the use of stage equipment, including sound and
lighting systems and equipment.
• Assist in supervising student stagehands as assigned; supervisory duties include instructing,
planning, and assigning work, show crew, run Technical Rehearsal, maintaining standards, and coordinating activities.
• Train staff and students in the proper use of tools and equipment. Ensure safety of all students
at all times.
• Utilize various clerical and computer supplies; electrician's tools, supplies and parts;
hardware; cabling; hand and power tools, stage supplies, etc.
• Interact and communicate with various groups and individuals such as the immediate supervisor,
coworkers, other District staff, clients and their representatives, and the general public.
• Troubleshoot needed maintenance and make minor repairs on sound systems, audio speakers, video
components and other technical equipment as assigned. Collaborate with the Performing Art Center
Manager to ensure successful student productions.
• Participate in establishing a welcoming atmosphere and supportive learning environment.
• Performs other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and
effective work environment. Travel to the feeder middle school programs to promote/teach technical
theatre.

• Maintain knowledge of current trends and technology in technical theater.
• Adhere to deadlines and schedules set forth within the district
• Provide leadership, direction, and team building with students, staff, and personnel
• Communicate with groups in the performing arts center, community, or school environment
• work extended hours that may include evenings, weekends and or holidays (UIL)
• Supervise assigned teacher aide(s)

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Tools/Equipment Used: Computer, :Laptop, phone system, video/instruction equipment.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
• Maintain emotional control under stress; frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and
pushing; move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
Possible exposure to dust and other allergens present in typical construction materials and/or shop
activities. Additionally, one will be exposed to various lighting conditions, including darkened walkways and stairwells.
