Job Summary:
The Department of Respiratory Therapy at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Respiratory Therapist Supervisor. The successful candidate will:
- Supervise, direct, and evaluate staff assigned to the NICU/PICU areas.
- Cross-cover to adult services as needed.
- Maintain competency for all age groups.
- Perform and evaluate the application of specialized respiratory care procedures.
- Consult with physicians, nurses, and other medical staff concerning patient care problems.
- Make rounds to ensure therapists are functioning in their respective areas.
- According to the Infection Control Guidelines, supervise the transport, cleaning & disinfection of equipment.
- Provide respiratory care for acute patients under the direction of a physician, including but not limited to, drawing blood gases for analysis, adjustment of ventilation or other equipment within the limits of the physician's instructions, and recording respiratory progress in patient records.
- Participate in orientation of new therapists, departmental in-services and educational programs; may present lecture and clinical training sessions for medical, nursing, and other staff as needed.
- Participate in product evaluations and treatment planning.
- Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the respiratory care department and to ensure a high level of patient care is maintained.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science/Associate of Applied Science in Respiratory Therapy or graduate of a 2-year AMA approved Respiratory Therapy program.
- New York State Respiratory Therapist Licensure.
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with NPS, NRP, PALS and ACLS preferred.
- BLS (to be obtained within 1-year of employment).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Supervisory experience a plus.
Work Schedule:
Variable Days; 7:30am to 8:30pm

Commensurate with experience and qualifications
