- Teaches a variety of courses in American Sign Language
- Prepares and delivers lectures to students on various topics in relation to a specific discipline
- Evaluates and grades students' class work, laboratory work, assignments and papers
- Prepares course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments and handouts
- Keeps abreast of developments in the field by reading current literature, speaking with colleagues and participating in professional conferences
- Maintains student attendance records, grades and other required records
- Initiates, facilitates and moderates classroom discussions
- As needed, advises students on academic and vocational curricula and on career issues
- Plans, evaluates and revises curricula, course content and course materials and methods of instruction
- Compiles, administers and grades examinations
- Collaborates with colleagues to address teaching and research issues
- Maintains regularly scheduled office hours to advise and assist students
- Selects and obtains materials and supplies such as textbooks and laboratory equipment
- Serves on academic or administrative committees that deal with institutional policies, department matters and academic issues
- Participates in campus and community events
Required Qualifications:
- Master's degree in ASL or ASLinterpreting; or
- Master's degree in related fieldwith at least one or more of the following:
- Minimum 1 year teaching experiencein ASL or ASL interpreting
- ASLTA certification
- RID certification
- Bachelor's degree in ASL,ASL interpreting, or related field
- Graduate of an Interpreter TrainingProgram
- EIPA certification (advanced level)
- ASLPI rating Level 4 or 5 (Level 3may be considered based on additional qualifications)
- SLPIrating of Advanced or higher (Intermediate Plus may be considered based onadditional qualifications)
- Native or near-native fluency inASL
- Understanding of ASL grammar andstructure
- Evidenceof a strong commitment to professional development and staying current in thefield of ASL
- Currentmembership in ASL Teachers' Association (ASLTA), Ohio ASLTA, Registry ofInterpreters for the Deaf (RID) and/or Conference of Interpreter Trainers (CIT)
- Teaching experience
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Suite (or equivalent)
- Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for students
- Advanced communication (verbal, written and interpersonal) and organizational skills
- Logic and reasoning skills to identify solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems
- Sensitivity to respond appropriately to the needs of a diverse population
Preferred Qualifications:
- Community college teaching experience
- Experience applying diverse instructional strategiesin response to student learning styles

Total Compensation &Benefits
- Target Hiring Rate/Salary: $54,263 with B.A. plus 30 semester hours (45 quarter credits) or M.A. degree; Education less than or more than stated will affect minimum salary. This salary reflects a nine (9) month contract period. Faculty can work during summer sessions to earn additional wages.
