Job Title: Technical Service Representative
Job Summary:
The Technical Service Representative role requires a self-motivated, critical thinking, driven individual. The Technical Service Representative role works closely with our Sales, Marketing and R & D teams to facilitate the sharing of knowledge and build opportunities to drive Sales through Rust-Oleum's innovation and technologies in a timely manner that support the business. The Technical Service Representative works independently and represents Rust-Oleum as consultant for both internal and external customers, resolving highly complex product issues while promoting and maintaining good customer relations and protection of Rust-Oleum's interests.
Reporting Manager:
The position reports to the ROUS Technical Service Manager
Job Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership and ownership of highly complex and diverse technical activities and related processes with major field projects
- Work with Rust-Oleum Sales Team and customers to drive Sales initiatives
- Provide technical advice to Rust-Oleum Sales Team and external customers
- Assist Rust-Oleum Sales Team and Product Support with complaint and/or failure analysis
- Assist the Technical Service Manager with managing Rust-Oleum Technical Documents, including technical data sheets, specifications, and warranties.
- Work with and assist Rust-Oleum Sales Training and Sales Team with product training with technical products both internal and external as determined by Technical Service Manager.
- Assist and support R&D and Product Management to provide technical application/testing for product trials of new and/or revision existing products
- Represent Rust-Oleum at conferences with customers, industry professionals, and Rust-Oleum Sales Team
- Provide required reports to Technical Service Manager in a timely manner
- Continue self-development and training and earn industry certifications
- Maintain strong communication and relationships with Rust-Oleum Sales Team, Product Management Team, and R&D Team
- Provide field support to Sales and with end users for trial applications, facility surveys, coating recommendations, complaint investigation, and other technical support needed by Sales.
- Assist with conducting both in house and field technical product training for Sales teams, Distributors, and end users.
- Prepare coating specifications when requested by Sales.
- Review literature, catalogs, and promotional publications for technical accuracy and product claims.
Required Job Knowledge and Skills
- High School degree or higher.
- 5 years' experience in the coatings industry - ideally, in a Coatings Technical or Inspector Role.
- Good professional verbal and writing skills. Good listening skills. Good presentation skills.
- Self-starter. Can perform job responsibilities without direct supervision.
- Can maintain a professional manner in an adversarial environment.
- Capable of independent travel. This will include making the most expedient and cost effective travel plans and able to travel solo to a location or job site.
- No issues with heights or confined spaces. Physically able to climb open straight ladders. No restrictions using and wearing required PPE including respiratory protection.
- A technical and mechanical aptitude. Capable of using various types of testing/analytical instrumentation.
- Ability to use Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
- AMPP/NACE Coatings Inspector CIP Level 1 or equivalent experience is recommended.
