The Mendocino County Office of Education is a public agency whose primary purpose is to provide educational leadership, resources and services to schools to ensure wide-ranging educational opportunities for all students. This mission is accomplished through cooperative efforts with teachers, school districts, families, and communities; through direct instructional programs and administrative services; and through coordination with the California Department of Education and other agencies.
Under the general supervision of the Director of Alternative Education, working in partnership with a general education teacher to provide specialized academic instructional services to high risk students that reside in the remote areas of Mendocino County or for students who have been placed on Special Education Home Instruction. Provide academic instruction through synchronous and asynchronous programs delivered at or near their home district or other locations. Facilitate individual student counseling in areas such as alcohol and drug abuse, teen parenting or other assigned areas.
Possess valid California Education Specialist Mild/Moderate or Moderate/Severe Instruction Credential with an English Learner authorization, which authorizes Resource services; OR Possess a valid Special Education Learning Handicapped teaching credential and a Resource Specialist Certificate, and an English Learner authorization; A Master of Arts Degree from an accredited college or university with an emphasis in special education or closely related field, preferred; Two (2) years of teaching and/or work with high-risk youth preferred; Possess or obtain upon employment, a valid California Driver's License; Provide proof of automobile insurability; Meet the physical requirements necessary to perform duties safely and effectively, including lifting fifty (50) pounds on an occasional basis and in excess of fifty (50) pounds with assistance.
