We are searching for an experienced Survey Party Chief at our Palmer Plant Bldg facility.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Work in support of M.T.A. OSP design, permitting, construction and other duties as assigned, under the supervision of the RLS Land Manager.
Maintain compliance with AS 08.48.341(13), "practice of land surveying".
SPECIFIC TASK DESCRIPTION
Required Qualifications:
EDUCATION:
Minimum of Associate of Arts degree in related land surveying (Geomatics) and preferably having passed the State LSIT (Land Surveyor in Training) exam.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of ten (10) years' experience and proficiency in field collection and analysis of survey data and coordinate geometry. Proficiency in GPS and conventional survey techniques using modern data collector software. Office tasks involve but are not limited to, drafting, research, quality control, data reduction, GPS post processing, drafting using CAD and other survey specific software.

EFFECT OF ERROR:
Errors in employee's normal work activity may produce major risk to the Association.Errors may involve substantial sums of money and resources, and a high level of normal resource allocation, thereby potentially placing the Association at major risk.
JOB SCOPE:
In addition to providing field to finish survey products, the Party Chief is responsible for supervising and providing direction and support to Survey Laborer and Instrument Person(s) in order to maintain consistent and acceptable practices and products in both the office and field. The position requires strong communication skills between other surveyors, engineers, impacted property owners and the public at large.
INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT:
Job responsibilities are generally not-routine and may involve issues affecting several departments.Problem solving requires considerable research and analysis.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Field work may include working under adverse conditions ranging from harsh terrain, rain, deep snow, wind, biting insects and other wild animals, disgruntled property owners and exposure to sub-zero temperatures for extended periods of time with minimal support.

SPECIFIC TASK DESCRIPTION
- Conduct field surveys utilizing conventional and GPS survey techniques in support of design and construction of outside plant projects.
- Maintain and implement a georeferenced database of in-house survey data to produce maximum efficiencies and to allow for the expedient access of both new and legacy survey data.
- Provide field surveys in support of OSP engineers and ROW personnel for the evaluation and design of proposed routes for new projects. This covers all aspects of the survey from research and planning, the field collection of data to the preparation of drawings depicting the locations of property lines, rights of way, easements and existing and proposed improvements.
- Prepare exhibits for easement acquisition and review legal descriptions for accuracy and potential conflicts under the supervision of the RLS Land Manager.
- In support of construction, provide field staking of property lines, rights of way, easements and the restoration of damaged or lost property corners.
