Accessibility Services Coordinator (Part-Time)

Overview:

Cardinal Stritch University is currently seeking a qualified candidate for our Student Support department. Under the supervision of the Director of Student Support and International Education, the Student Accessibility Services Coordinator will provide support to all Cardinal Stritch University students who have a documented disability and/or a chronic medical or mental health challenge, seek academic and nonacademic accommodations as prescribed by the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. In addition, the Coordinator will maintain confidential and accurate student contact records describing problems, referrals, solutions and outcomes. The Student Accessibility Services Coordinator will be responsible for assessing the needs of the student to establish reasonable accommodations and deliver, or establish, the necessary auxiliary aids such as note taking, test proctoring, document conversion, etc. to optimize student success. In addition, the Coordinator will develop accessibility awareness curricula for faculty and staff. This individual will also act as the primary supervisor of the University Testing Center. In this capacity, the Coordinator manages the schedule of exam proctoring and establishes and publicizes the calendar of exams offered throughout the year. Lastly, the Student Accessibility Services Coordinator acts as an instructor for the ASC014/015 course offered through the Student Support Department.

 

Responsibilities:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities.

 

  • Must know about programs and services available to students who have disabilities, and/or a chronic medical or mental health condition, and how to work independently as well as with a team
  • Maintains confidential databases/logs of student information including student monitoring activities, phone conversations, testing on a regular basis as required
  • Have strong decision-making skills, good judgment and the ability to effectively advocate on behalf of students who have disabilities
  • Assists in facilitating or delivering reasonable accommodation for the students' online environment (virtual classrooms) and for face-to-face courses
  • Assists in scheduling, facilitating and supervising students' class testing in house for those approved for accommodation. Orients students to testing policies and procedures
  • Coordinates with vendors for assistive technology and books in alternative formats
  • Serves as instructor for ASC014/015 Practical Learning Strategies course.
  • Facilitate efficient procedures and communicate appropriate protocol to ensure students are served appropriately, i.e. the procedure for requesting accommodations, etc.
  • Communicate with faculty when appropriate to ensure proper accommodations are provided
  • Work with students who have self-identified disabilities to facilitate books for the blind and dyslexic
  • Maintain working knowledge of the current version of the Americans with Disabilities Act 504 and FERPA rules/regulations
  • Determine and expedite appropriate accommodations for individuals who have declared a disability and/or chronic mental health condition.
  • Participate in WAICU Disability Director meetings to stay current on best practices at colleges/universities in Wisconsin.
  • Continue membership of AHEAD organization. Monitor AHEAD for best practices and develop updated plans for Student Accessibility Services when appropriate.
  • Act as a proctor for students seeking accommodation using the University testing center and oversee student staff that work in testing center
  • Create and facilitate sessions for faculty regarding best practices for supporting our students with disabilities and/or chronic mental health conditions
  • Represent department on University committees to assist with student retention initiative and programs.
  • Communicate DIAL plans with faculty and work with students to practice self-advocacy for accommodations through the DIAL
  • Work collaboratively with members of the Student Support Department to create an environment of “whole-person” support.
  • Tutor university students and offer Academic Coaching Services
  • Instruct ASC 014 or ASC 015 courses through Student Support Department
  • Assess, monitor, and recommend changes to programs and services to best meet the needs of students.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Required - Bachelor’s degree in Education, Rehabilitation, Counseling, Psychology, or related field. Master’s Degree preferred
  • Three years minimum experience teaching/working with students with disabilities in a school setting

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • AHEAD professional organization
