Storm Center Operations ManagerDescriptionStorm Center ManagerJob SummaryThis position coordinates and manages Georgia Power storm response efforts, both internally and with other operational companies and Mutual Assistance Partners, as needed. The Storm Center Manager is responsible for coordinating customer communications, damage assessment planning, logistics planning, and manpower planning efforts, pertinent to storm and other emergency response activities. The Storm Center Manager also serves as a leader in representing GPC on industry committees and serves as a subject matter expert in storm planning and execution with both internal and external stakeholders, including business leaders and elected officials.Job Requirements4 years of manager of manager experience is preferred.A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Business, or related field is preferred, with an advanced degree a plus.Relevant industry certifications are preferred.Success in a leadership position in a large-scale, complex and matrixed organization in a regulated industry.Experience with electric utility storm response and mutual assistance arrangements.A strong understanding of regulatory storm accounting and logistic processes.Experience in managing complex multi-million-dollar budgets.Ability to respond to events while securing and directing resources at any time is essential.A strong understanding of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), especially regarding compensation for covered personnel.Direct field experience in on-system and off-system storm response.Ability to positively represent the company as a leader on industry committees.A strong understanding of customer and regional external expectations on communications related to planned and unplanned outages.Ability to assess risk and apply sound judgment, at times with incomplete information or requiring immediate response, weighing tradeoffs and options to determine immediate and strategic response.Demonstrated ability to conceive and present effective and creative solutions to diverse and complex business problems.Experience influencing and leading across and outside enterprise boundaries, including external industry groups and forums.Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills with experience credibly influencing highly technical and executive audiences; the ability to simplify complex subjects and articulate risk in clear business terms.Ability to manage multiple objectives and priorities in a high-pressure environment.A passion to continuously learn about the Company, the industry, advanced technology, and emerging industry threats.Major Job ResponsibilitiesMonitor the weather and associated outages for storm response planning and execution.Manage the overall storm restoration effort, including manpower needs, logistics, estimated restoration times, internal company updates, review of media releases, and conducting executive briefings.Ensure timely, concise, and accurate external and internal communications during storms, storm related activities or other planned/unplanned events.Represent GPC on industry committees that focus on storm response planning, including Edison Electric Institute (EEI) and The Association of Edison Illuminating Companies (AEIC).Manage Georgia Power’s inputs into the RAMP Up application, used by the Southeastern Electric Exchange (SEE) when analyzing Mutual Assistance needs or capabilities during large storm events.Manage budgets for the storm center and Georgia Power’s storm responses.Provide input and influence regulatory process discussions and industry standards regarding storm responses.Ensure Operational Area SERP plans are updated annually and follow consistent formatting.Manage all storm center equipment including the Mobile Command Center, tower repeater trailers, etc.Provide leadership and direction to the storm center leadership team for large storm events, including the manpower director, logistic director, DAT team director, etc., and ensure they are trained to effectively carry out their responsibilities.Provide oversight of all storm center applications, including new tool implementation, and ensure impacted employees are properly trained.Lead lessons learned discussions with necessary stakeholders following large storm events and ensure learnings are implemented for future storm responses.Ensure Right-of -Entry Agreements are documented and updated yearly by the Operational Areas for staging sites within their territory.Provide education on storm management, including processes and procedures, to elected officials and business leaders, as requested by Georgia Power’s external facing teams.Effectively and consistently communicate with Operational Area managers, storm center managers at other operational companies, and with Mutual Assistance partners, as needed.Participate in operational readiness discussions and planning for critical business needs involving system risks.Provide executive summaries following storm responses.Maintain excellent working relationships with GEMA and GDOT officials.Maintain current re-entry plans put in place after coastal evacuations due to large storms (GDOT and GEMA participation).Partner with Georgia Power’s training department to help develop and deliver SERP training.*This position will be filled using a modified Selection Process.
