Summary
As a member of City Market’s Senior Team (ST), the Store Manager – Downtown plays an integral part in providing leadership to the Co-op. Responsible for City Market’s Downtown Store operations, this position establishes and coordinates all store functions in accordance with Co-op policies and Global Ends and adheres to sound business and financial practices. Focused on strategy implementation, fiscal stewardship, active global management and collective bargaining agreement compliance, the Store Manager – Downtown ensures proper human, operational, administrative and control procedures to run the Co-op efficiently, effectively and with excellent customer service.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to assuring growth, service development, quality control, profitability, and operating efficiency with all store departments. The Store Manager- DT works closely with the General Manager and other ST members to provide input on the strategic direction of the store, the Co-op as a whole, and to oversee the gross profit of the Downtown Store to achieve budgetary goals.
Essential Responsibilities
- Work with Senior Team (ST) and through All Leadership Team (ALT) & broader staff to implement the Co-op’s strategies and plans with regard to products, promotions, policies, procedures, Members and customers.
- Model and hold others accountable to the Co-op’s core values of Kindness, Diversity, Responsibility, Fun, Learning and Positive Impact.
- Build an environment and orientation of continuous improvement throughout our supply chain, store and departments.
- Work with the GM to assist in developing and implementing the store’s short and long-term plans with regard to products, policies, and procedures. Work with the GM and the Director of Finance and IT to assist department managers in forecasting then implementing and monitoring each department’s operating, capital, labor and cash flow budget.
- Key emphasis on margin and labor attainment goals.
- Work with the GM, ST and department managers to:
- Meet or exceed sales and margin goals
- Maintain ORC/City Market’s focus on local product supply and selection
- Develop and manage within labor, capital, and operating budgets
- Implement overarching Co-op strategies
- Ensure excellence in customer service
- Ensure that the Downtown Store is full, clean, attractive and efficiently operated.
- Assist with execution and coordination of City Market’s strategic plans with regard to product selection and intentional pricing.
- Select, develop, supervise and evaluate the performance of direct reports.
- Conduct forecast demand scheduling.
- Manage the coordination of quarterly inventory counts.
- Analysis of Downtown Store sales and sales trends, and co-responsibility with ST to pro-actively address areas of sales variance, relative to budget.
- Build and maintain a strong, effective team of managers that work collaboratively to present a clean, consistent, and welcoming store. Promote and ensure positive working relationships between department managers.
- Strong organizational skills, broad systems thinking and a demonstrated ability to follow through on commitments.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience with an emphasis on grocery store, retail or related management experience.
- At least 10 years managing managers: hiring, training, evaluating, coaching and developing.
- At least 10 years' experience developing, implementing, and adhering to budgets, assessing cash handling controls, and managing margin requirements.
- Knowledge of natural and conventional foods and the food industry preferred.
Technical Skills
- Solid understanding of Microsoft Office Suite with an emphasis on Microsoft Excel.
- Public speaking and presentation skills are essential.
