The Sr. Director of Engineering is responsible for overseeing and leading a team of software engineers, QA, and database managers to ensure the development and delivery of high-quality products and services. This role would be the primary leader of the software engineering branch of the product team; guiding, mentoring, and helping to determine the best approach to reaching our company short- and long-term goals. This role requires a strategic thinker, an effective communicator, and an expert in technology delivery. You will work directly under the VP of Product and act as both a technology and business expert, helping to drive decisions that will impact the company's current and future digital products and services; as well as, working closely day-to-day with the implementation team.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Responsible for successfully delivering the technical aspects of our product roadmap.
- Working with the head of product, will develop a technology strategy and offers insights with an eye on new technologies that may be on the horizon
- Ensuring that the overall architecture of the product line is effective, efficient, scalable, and forward-looking.
- Lead, develop, motivate, and inspire our Product Engineering team through clear objectives, milestones, and measurements.
- Be a key partner with our Product, Content, and Design teams to help build innovative solutions that deliver a great user experience.
- Provide technical leadership for product and business strategy.
- Establish, measure, and manage key metrics for group's performance and ensure appropriate allocation of resources to achieve goals.
- Research, collate and articulate the business requirements from the market, customers, suppliers, partners, and staff successfully related to internal application development.
- Ensure technological resources meet the company's short and long-term needs and achieve goals on time.
- Collaborate with others to create timelines for the development and deployment of all technological services.
- Manage technology budgets and time frames.
- Stay on top of technology trends and developments and identify new technologies that yield a competitive advantage
- Working with the Sr. Director of Operations, ensure all technology practices adhere to regulatory standards, and that the technology infrastructure is in full compliance with all data privacy and security standards.
- Source and manage software development suppliers needed to maximize the velocity and quality of developed software.
- implement a product release cadence that delivers predictable value to the business while optimizing the productivity of the software development resources.
Position Requirements (Skills, Knowledge, Abilities):
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, MIS, or similar field
- Able to demonstrate leadership qualities that nurture and foster growth within a team.
- Able to demonstrate recurring delivery success with multiple teams
- Highly collaborative with cross-functional teams to include product, design, content, marketing, and sales
- Successfully deploys technology as an enabler and not the driver problem solving.
- 10+ years in an IT leadership role - preferably in an organization that supports internal and external Intellectual Property.
- Proven experience as a Sr. Leader of a technology team within an organization supporting a hybrid and 100% remote environment.
- Demonstrated success in developing a highly functional team and customer centric culture
- Ability to analyze complex information and guide others on a reasonable path forward
- Ability to manage projects for on time completion within budget and appropriately communicate updates in a timely manner
- Excellent knowledge of computer software systems including cloud computing environments
- Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills
