General Summary
Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the Senior Director of Development is responsible for aiding in the implementation of the Development Strategic Plan, supervises Development team members, and leads our Major Gifts and Planned Giving programs. The Senior Director of Development supervises the Director of Annual Fund, Special Events Manager, Donor Services Manager, and Nearly New Thrift Store General Manager.
Duties & Responsibilities
- In close collaboration with the Chief Development Officer, the Senior Director of Development project manages the implementation of the Development Strategic Plan, ensuring milestones and fundraising metrics/goals are met by everyone on the team. Reports progress to the CDO.
- Supervises the Development team to execute annual strategies, providing coaching and mentoring on best practices in donor acquisition, retention, engagement, and Board development.
- Supervises Nearly New General Manager and provides guidance to drive thrift store revenue, coordinate marketing promotion, and store management support.
- Guides the professional development of direct reports as identified in their annual professional development goals.
- Personally, manages a portfolio of major gift and planned giving donors; developing and implementing written Moves Management process for each. Stewards donors through visits, written communications, tours, and events to sustain major and planned gift support.
- Supports the CDO's and CEO's major gift work with top prospects and members of the Board of Trustees.
- Responsible for oversight and tracking of the Development Dashboard.
- Collaborates with Finance team to ensure accurate tracking of Development revenue, including donor restrictions, and expenses.
- Collaborates with Director of Marketing & Communications for marketing support of fund development activities, integrated campaigns, collateral materials, and other marketing support as necessary.
- Assists CDO in instilling a collaborative work process across all fund development functions.
- Coordinates with CDO on scheduling and meeting preparation for Development Committee meetings.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements
Experience/Education
The ideal candidate is a mission-driven, effective fundraiser who thrives on the responsibility of helping to drive the organization's fundraising targets. Proven track record of raising funds from diverse sources, including major gifts from individuals, foundations, corporations, and government agencies. A bachelor's degree in a related field. A Master's degree and/or continuing professional education in areas such as non-profit management, planned giving, or marketing are desirable. Minimum 10+ years of management-level fundraising experience with at least 5 years of supervisory experience.
Qualifications
Broad knowledge of strategies and tactics necessary to grow a successful, comprehensive development program for human services non-profits. Experience with prospect identification, major gifts, planned giving, endowments, annual fund, foundation fundraising, donor tracking/recognition, and special event fundraising. Strong relationship building skills with demonstrated success in cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major gift donors. Candidates must have strong verbal and written, including editing and communication skills. Possesses a firm understanding of the complimentary roles development and marketing play in achieving fundraising goals as well as internal/external marketing and communication goals. Ability to build rapport through active listening. Candidate will possess a creative, organized, and collaborative management style; thorough knowledge of effective supervisory principles/practices. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with database development software such as Raiser's Edge is required. Must have excellent interpersonal skills.
Language
Ability to read, write and speak English proficiently. Bilingual skills are a plus.
