- Thermal Engineering International (USA) Inc. designs and fabricates high quality Pressure Vessels and Heat Transfer Equipment for the power generation and process industries worldwide.
- TEi's product line includes a wide variety of main steam condensers, feedwater heaters, moisture separator reheaters (MSRs) and auxiliary heat exchangers.
- This is a senior Engineering position mainly focused on project mechanical design and engineering for project activities.
- The duties for this position involve reviewing customer specifications, performing mechanical design calculations and associated analysis, preparing manufacturing drawings as well as presenting, documenting and updating of these activities to others as necessary.
- This position will require supporting all active Engineering projects when the need arises.
- The position will require interaction with internal personnel in sales, contracts, project management, proposal engineering, procurement, estimating, and manufacturing.
- Position must consider minimizing risk and exposure to the Company while working with all team members to achieve the sales and execution goals and margins.
- The position also involves the development of standards to facilitate the mechanical design and drafting of various types of Heat Exchangers.
- The design and project engineering teams primarily located in our Los Angeles area headquarters provide integrated product engineering in support of our manufacturing facility in Joplin, Missouri resulting in single-point responsibility for the design and manufacturing of heat transfer equipment for power and process industry related implementation.
- In addition to the Cerritos, CA and Joplin, MO primary locations, TEi has satellite offices in Tulsa, OK, Spring, TX and Fort Washington, PA. For the right applicant, working out of one of the satellite locations is a possibility.
- Review contract requirements, client technical specifications, Sales package and all design data.
- Interpret and comprehend all pertinent information for various types of power plant, industrial, and petrochemical/refinery heat exchangers for the development of competitive and state of the art designs.
- Coordinate with other department specialty engineers as required.
- Develop required general arrangement drawings, fabrication details, assembly drawings, P&IDs, and Bill of Material.
- Utilize Project Job Folders in Document Control/Quality Management System.
- Review fabrication drawings for conformity to client specification and applicable codes and standards.
- Issue final Drawings/Document Packages to Workshops or clients as instructed.
- Attend project kick-off meeting for new projects, and any other project review meetings when necessary.
- Prepare and issue Engineering RFQs/Requisitions in a timely manner.
- Prepare Installation and Operation Manuals (IOM) and submit to client for review and approval.
- Assist with preparation of technical comments and technical follow-up with customers during project execution stage.
- Complete mechanical design and required mechanical analysis.
- Develop new ideas and design concepts in order to improve productivity and reduce cost.
- Using the electronic DMS, notify the Project Manager of contract changes that result in price additions or deducts, scope variations that could have an impact on cost, quality, or delivery schedule.
- Support of onsite installation projects (extended assignments with appropriate compensation), customer meetings at site, inspections onsite, and subcontract facilities may be required.
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical, Chemical or Nuclear Engineering or related field is required
- Master Degree in Mechanical, Chemical or Nuclear Engineering or related field is a plus
- 15+ years' experience in the particular product line and industry common to the product
- Expert level work experience in designing various types of pressure vessels and heat exchangers in accordance with the ASME Code for pressure vessels and high-pressure heat exchangers per ASME Section VIII Division 1 and 2 required and HEI (Heat Exchange Institute) Standards is required
- Familiarity ASME Code Section III is preferred
- Experience with Oil and Gas HX design and fabrication is preferred
- Experience in performing finite element analysis (FEA) to the requirements of ASME code is a plus.
- Some working knowledge of ASME B31.1, AWS, and AISC is a plu
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and oral
- Must be organized and be able to work under pressure to meet deadlines and be able to work in a team setting
- Flexibility in schedule, initiative, assertiveness, good analytical skills, maintain effective and professional interaction with all levels
- Mechanical calculations and design: Intergraph CADWorx / PV Elite, Codeware /Compress, RCS is a plus
- FEA: SolidWorks, Nastran or ANSYS Software is a plus
- Proficient in Drafting: AutoCAD, Inventor or Solid Works
- Programming: Excel, Visual Basic or VBA is a plus
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point
- Registered as a Professional Engineer is preferred
- Certification in AutoCAD, SolidWorks or inventor design software is a plus
