Sr. Automation MDE, Amazon Device Operations

As a Senior Automation MDE, you will be a key member of a development team responsible for driving world class manufacturing automation solutions to scale operations globally. This will innovating solutions for product packaging design and automation solutions for pack out processes. You will explore cutting edge technologies and design equipment to realize process automation. You will guide packaging design for automation (DFA). This position is also a key member of a strategic team tasked to improve global supply flexibility. The right candidate will possess a solid understanding of technical principles and concepts in packaging design and mechatronics engineering. The candidate will have demonstrated experience leading complex design/engineering projects, and will have a well-rounded technical background in complex inter-disciplinary systems.
Key job responsibilities
- Innovate, design and develop cost effective automation solutions for assembly and pack out operations. This will involve designing (3D CAD) of automation work cell layout.
- Define, expand, and explore the design space for complex, multidisciplinary robotics and automation problems.
- Derive functional and design requirements from product requirements documents, identify and analyze the cross-functional tradeoffs between design alternatives, including impact on performance, schedule, cost, risk, complexity, and scale.
- Work with an interdisciplinary team to execute product designs from concept to production; including design, prototyping, validation, testing, and certification.
- Coordinate with all other cross-functions to ensure project success.
- Work with Device Hardware teams to enforce design for manufacturing and automation.
- Possess a thorough understanding of technical principles and concepts in mechatronics engineering.
- Provide mechanical engineering leadership, conduct experiments, simulations, data collection, perform system and sub-system level testing. Identify design choices to ensure our products are safe, reliable, and usable, and can be deployed and supported at Amazon scale.
- Write functional specifications, design verification plans, evaluations, test procedures, FMEA documents.
- Drive technical issues related to manufacturing (assembly and pack out) to closure, ensuring consistent execution of the factory's quality and production plans.
A day in the life
You will be the main interface between device hardware teams, domestic and offshore operations teams, automation suppliers. You will ensure hardware and packaging are designed for automation. You will design the automation solutions for pack out operations. You will drive technical issues to closure. You will guide automation suppliers through the build, factory acceptance test, site acceptance test, and deployment stages.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- BS in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent.
- 10+ yrs of experience in Industrial automation, robotics, or similar area.
- 5+ yrs of packaging design experience in consumer electronics field
- Excellent written (white papers) and oral communication skills
- Fluent in 3D CAD (Solidworks)
- Experience in qualifying assembly automation machines FAT, SAT
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent
- Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production
- Experience with the project management of technical projects
- Proficiency with FMEA, GD&T.
- Vision, PLC programming, C++ or Python programming
- Statistical analysis

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $114,300/year in our lowest geographic market up to $213,600/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
