Job description

Do you enjoy working with highly technical people? Do you like to think creatively? Can you manage and lead teams in your sleep? Do you have a passion for agile development? Want to keep our nation safe? How about bleeding-edge technology? If so, Jacobs has an excellent opportunity for you in our Innovative Aerospace Division (IAD) group. IAD is a rapidly growing business within Jacobs's Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance Sector that leads the design and development of next-generation aerospace payloads and ground processing systems. This division is a small subset (<200) of the company comprised of engineers of various disciplines organized into product development teams. The small company atmosphere provides the perfect opportunity to demonstrate your engineering skills on challenging problems while expanding your abilities and advancing your career. We have the corporate investment, infrastructure, subject matter experts, and strategic focus to enable you to be successful.

This position is focused on being an embedded C/C software engineer with some supervisory and SAFe agile duties.  As a C embedded software engineering supervisor, your job would involve overseeing a team of embedded software engineers to ensure the successful completion of projects. Act as a point of contact for timecards and HR-related issues. You would perform the SAFe Agile ceremonies as a Release Train Engineer. You would provide guidance and mentorship to team members as needed. Additionally, you would train new developer team members as needed.

  • Keep up your development skills as a contributing embedded C developer.
  • Supervise a wonderfully talented group of local software engineers.
  • Contribute to the technical vision, strategy, and technology roadmap planning and product definition for your team alongside SMEs (Subject Matter Experts), technical leads, and PM/product owners.
  • Become intimately familiar with our projects, programs, and tech stack.
  • Guide the team on important architectural and long-term engineering decisions and shorter-term tradeoffs.
  • Stay technical to provide meaningful guidance on engineering decisions.
  • Drive the scalability and reliability of the software team to fit program requirements.
  • Keep your pulse on the craft: writing architecture designs, working with infrastructure and quality on tooling for your team, and hands-on embedded software development.
  • Mentor, develop, and guide ~10 software engineers with advanced Agile, Lean, and SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) principles and skills.
  • Coordinates multiple solution interfaces (both external and internal)
  • Collaborate with peers and ensure that capabilities preferred by the business are enabled.

Here is what you will need:

  • Must be a U.S. (United States). Citizen and be willing and able to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, system engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with C in embedded Linux systems.
  • Minimum of 7 years of related software engineering work experience.
  • Some experience as a Release Train Engineer, Product Owner, Scrum Master, developer, tester, or other roles on a SAFe Agile or agile team.
  • Demonstrates a deep sense of urgency and ownership and operates collaboratively.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with multidisciplinary teams, take ownership of deliverables, and drive assigned tasks to completion.
  • Availability to work on-site as needed.

Perferred:

  • Current Active TS/SCI clearance.
  • Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) or Certified Scrum Professional (CSP).
  • SAFe Product Owner/Product Manager (POPM).
  • Experience with Scaled Agile/SAFe methodology.
  • Experience with Atlassian software suites, such as Confluence and Jira, specifically.
  • Strong teamwork and collaborative skills.
  • Full knowledge of modern development methodologies (Agile, Scrum, Kanban).
  • Software development / Systems Design experience.
  • Experience developing designs for airborne or satellite systems.
